Hi!
Again I have some questions to you:
1) Can't convince Stale Mary to show me the way to Silent King.
There's just no such an option in the conversation! That's pretty much strange, cos I have 20 Int. and 20 Wis.
2) Is it possible to read the circles of Zerthimon, if I'm a warrior? If not, can I train for a wizard for a while, and then turn back to warrior, do all my skills retain after all these shifts?
Will I get any profit from the circles except spells? Exp, I mean.
3) Do all these rushes from one fraction to another push the character towards chaotic?

I shall wait for you in the death halls, my love...
1) You need 16 or higher Charisma.
2) You'll get lots of experience for reading the Circles of Zerthimon, especially if you manage to surpass Dak'kon's understanding of Zerthimon.
You can train as a Wizard, gain as many levels as you like, and then train to be a Fighter again. You'll actually retain all of your combat skills you gained as a Fighter when you become a Mage, but you can only use Mage weapons.
3) I don't think switching from one faction to another counts as a Chaotic act, but joining one particular faction makes you more Chaotic. (I don't know why you'd join them if you didn't want to be Chaotic.)
I hope this helps.

Regarding your #1 & #3 issues: I have not gotten that far yet.
Regarding your #2 issue: what I did...
-Trained by Mebbeth, became a Wizard temporarily. (Can be trained by others as well, I think.)
-Talked to Dak'kon about the Way of Zerthimon, and the 1st Unbroken Circle.
-Used the Unbroken-Circle-thing in his inventory, for the 1st Circle.
-Talked to Dak'kon again. Repeated previous two steps for all 8 Circles. With your Intelligence and Wisdom scores, you should be able to get through all eight conversations.
(I won't spoil the end results of each conversation.)
I then added spells to spell books, picked spells, and rested. Lastly, I had Dak'kon change me back to a Fighter, via conversing with him about his teachings.
So now what I do, when I need to identify an item (Identify), or save jink when buying stuff and raise my Charisma (Friends), or whenever else I need spells:
I talk to Dak'kon, have him change me to a Wizard, cast the magic, and then have Dak'kon change me back to a Fighter.
The only thing compromised is that 'realistic' feel. Which, of course, is so important in a game that takes place in another Plane of Existence...

Why is it that whenever I finally get around to playing a new game for the first time,
I feel like playing Baldur's Gate for the second time...

Great!!! Thanx!
The only thing that embarrasses me is that my Charisma is also 20 (I like this number! Yes, I have a wise, but pretty weak fighter, poor boy!)
I've heard NO should be a mage for having conversation with Stale Mary about Silent King. Is that true?

INT and WIS are far more useful in provoking conversation, it's true. But to an extent, you can make up for that with tattoos.

To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
IIRC, mebbeth is the only one who can actually unlock the mage class for you, though others, like dakkon and the sensoria addict lady, can switch you.
and the best reason to do the unbroken circle stuff is for the story. gods, that narrative is one of the best things in the game--not just what it does for dakkon (powerup!), but the entire quasi-chinese philosophy of the githzerai: the scripture of steel, zerthimon on the pillars, the proclamation of two skies, etc. gods, it's great.

Hi, i'm no expert but I have something about question #1. I did both route to see the Silent King, which is through Hargrimm - kill cranium rats, then doing something about Soego up till I managed to READ Soego's journal. After which I came up to Stale-Mary and convinced her to let me see the Silent King...
So when I goes into the portal to see the Silent King, I get the cutscenes where Hargrimm & Stale-Mary appears. I made a vow to keep Silent King's secret - and won my freedom...and the best part is I can still reveal Soego's true identity to Hargrimm after leaving the Throne chamber!
