Poll: what alingment do you play?
Poll: what alingment do you play?
I haven't seen this one asked as a poll-type question...the game is obviously slanted towards those who are good alignments, but from reading these posts is sounds like a LOT of you are despicably evil. Any "balancers" out there?
I am playing an Undead Hunter, so my alignment is obvious, eh?
And a secondary question: Whar is this constant fascination with playing drow characters? Are they valid PnP choices by the rules? It seems to me that players go for them only because of all the special abilities I remember from WAY back in my PnP days.....

I just posted a mini-rant about Drow-lovers in "where would you live". Spooky.
I got sick of playing goody paladins (class characters though) and decided to go Chaotic Neutral.
Totally unpredicatable - good, evil, do what you want.

Garcia....sure I pick it from real life...why it may be only a game,(a damn good game and all), but isn't that what you do???.....you imagine yourself as the main character and try to fit into the "role" as close as you can....that's what I do anyway...of course when you have completed the game with "yourself"...you try it with a half-orc or maybe a dwarf..but it doesn't get as personal or as satisfactious then does it????

Sure I do that is why people like us in this forum enjoy games like this as much as we do. I was just making fun of my personality. Imagine the old role AD&D games if you don't think or relate to the character there isn't much point in playing them, it would be like eating bananasplit without the banana.
BTW I find it a bit hard relating to a dwarf since I am 1,97 m.

Precisely....as for the dwarf it was only meant to be an example but shure I know what you mean...it's pretty hard to relate to something that isn't you.....I mean say that you read a book and the main character resembled you quite good (at least you wished he would) then you would have no problem imagining the different scenarios that ocurred...but reading about a dwarf (for example)...it would feel distant and you wouldn't be able to relate to it in the same way.

Nobody else seems to be biting on my "why do you love the darkie-elves so much" question....are the drow among us sleeping in their coffins somewhere? (oops, sorry, wrong creature of darkness....)
Seriously, it has been many ages since I played PnP, but I DO remember well the "Vault of the Drow" and associated modules. I recall that the drow have an insane number of special perks and abilities; do they still have these? Even up here in the "real" world?

You can't actually play a Drow with the special abilities in BG2 - just an elf with dark skin/white hair.

As for why it seems to me the bad guy/girl gets to have a better time.(At least till the end)

About the Drow.
A normal Drow have 120 infravision, start with 50% magic resistance and get a adicional 2% every level and can cast once per day -dancing lights, faerie fire and darkness.
Above 4th level they also get- levitate, know aligment and detect magic.
Drow priests also get- detect lie, claivoyance and suggestion
These ablilites fade away from the underdark.
I play as a NG

Two files. One, a Lawful Good Paladin, upholding all that is pure and righteous. On the other hand, A Chaotic Evil Sorceror that takes sadistic pleasure in treating people with scorn and disrespect. I'm a contradiction in myself. Go figure...

I played through first time as the obvious choice - Lawful Good Paladin (Undead Hunter) and found that to properly role play a paladin had some real difficulties (Role playing only). I personally think that the game designers did a very good job of presenting ethical/moral dilemas for those that care about them, and often there is scripted NPC comment about decisions made. I'm now playing a dualed at Lvl 10 Sashbuckler/Fighter of Lawful Evil alignment and my character is having a ball in the underdark. The combat bonuses that a swashbuckler gets means my P.C. has a better THACO than Korgan and Korgan is generally one level higher a fighter! When I hit 70 H.Ps I started going into combat first and now I out kill Korgan. Apart from the lack of H.Ps the swashbuckler/Fighter is a very good choice. - Curdis
