losing skill points dramatically for no reason?

Post by rex123 »

 Spoilers (possibly):
I have recently lost virtually all of my two major skills: (heavy/medium armor, I know poorly chosen) and about 30 points worth of strength. This occured right about the same time I started the Third trial. I'd basically like to know if this is part of the main Blades storyline, because if it is I can stop worrying about it and trying to fix it..

If it isn't part ot the main quest, does anyone have any ideas on how to help me out?

Are you wielding any weapons you've found? They could be cursed. You might have been cursed instead by something you killed.

There is a long blade you find in the ancestral tomb that you have to go into as part of the trials... That blade makes you lose certain ability scores
if you equip it....

If that proves to be the problem and you're on the PC, let us know. There are some console commands you can use to restore those stats, but reequipping the sword will cause the problem to return.

Well...

I don't think it is an cursed item in my inventory or one that's equipped because I've dropped every item in my inventory onto the ground and the red decreased skill levels remain. Could an item that has cursed me remain cursing me even after it's no longer equipped or not in my inventory? If someone I've killed has cursed me, how do I find out? and how do I fix the problem? I've already been cured of corpous so it shouldn't be a disease hurting me. I've recieved every blessing all over the game I can find. Any ideas?

Just some more info:

I'm on the XBOX. As far as the longblade, I suppose I might have picked it up at one point and possibly wielded it for a short time. But right now the only longblades I consistenlty equip myself with are the Chrysamere and an Ebony Longsword I enchanted with soul trap.
Items I remain equipped either all the time or a good portin of the time are:
Ten Pace Boots/Boots of the Apostle
Lord's Mail
Both Fist of Randagulf Gauntlets
Mentor's Ring
Masque of Clavicus Vile
Belt of Heartfire
Marara's Ring

that's about it for magic items...is it possible an item I have that doesn't have magic applied to it could be cursing me?

All curses remain active in Morrowind after an item is dropped, or the thing that cursed you is killed. The only way to remove a curse is through potions, spells, or console commands. Unfortunately, I don't think console commands will work on the Xbox, and the only way I know of to remove a curse affecting skills is through the console.

Fury...

I have found this sword in the place where I keep all of my extra weapons. Is there anyway for me to do away with these "iremovable" skill declines?

If you have the GOTY version, you could use a restore skill spell.
Do you need a silencer if you're gonna shoot a mime?

Also, drop the sword. Don't even keep it in your inventory. The thing's horribly buggy.

GOTY edition

I don't have the GOTY edition but I know someone who does. How do I use a restore skill spell with that?

Bring up the console by typing ~ from within the game. Then type in the console box:

Enablestatreviewmenu

This lets you make changes to your stats and (if I recall correctly) your skills, too. I wouldn't fool around with too much else.

sorry I don't quite follow you

I guess I'm not terribly video game sabby to be honest with you. How do you bring up the console box within the game? How do you type with the console to begin with. Do you just mean the text boxes you have to pickout letters with similar to choosing your name at the beginning of the game?

I suspect Fable was thinking that you are on PC :)

Bah, yes. :) You didn't say you weren't on the PC, so I assumed you were.

Does anybody know if there's a way to access and input console commands on the Xbox version, for him?

For the Xbox you can't.

You have to train your skill back up manually, or with a trainer. The spell doesn't work, nor does the shrine, because from the xbox's perspective, you just never leveled those skills.

Sorry,

Well, What should I do?

This is my first rpg, and I did choose terrible major/minor skills as I had no idea of what I was doing. Here they are now:
major:
Heavy armor: 35 (leveled up from below 10 through training)
Medium armor: 41 (leveled up from below 10 through training)
Blunt Weapon: 53
Armorer: 44
Block: 67

Minor Skills:
Long Blade: 100
Enchant: 49
Axe: 26
Spear: 33
Athletics: 78

I also have 60k in gold. Could I concievably just level up my skills a ton and make a run at beating the game. Or do you not have a strong enough character to even try that?
