"heart of <mainchar>" sword
"heart of " sword
In Targos you can buy a sword called "Heart of <char>", where <char> is the name of the party leader. I never saw the resolution of this mystery in the game. What is it about?
"Even the most powerful wizards will respect cold steel once it's shoved down their throats."

Well write "easy mark" on my forehead.
Aldon,
How did you discover this little deal she had with Nate? I too got suckered into buying the sword and I have held on to it in hopes of finding out the significance later on. Wonder if you can get XP for revealing the scam?
Also I have noted that at various loads of saved games the sword changes names to random characters in my party (although only those that use swords), my Paladin is the leader and I leave him in that slot. The sword still changes names though. Really odd.

UNCOMMON VALOR WAS A COMMON VIRTUE
Once you hit Heart of Fury mode, this weapon becomes awesome. You need to purchase it's upgraded version, but it's a +5 longsword that gives you Haste (and therefore +4 to AC and an extra attack) and Freedom of Movement while equiped AND +2 to Str and Dex!
In normal mode it's crap. It also takes on the name of any character that has it (at the start of each load?).

always thought this weapon was a relict from IWD1 (but never played IWD1 so I'm not sure about this!)
if you load the game the sword gets the name of the PC who uses it!
...and yes it is crap in normal mode - but a great weapon in HOF - as long as you don't permanently use haste, cats grace & bears strength and a ring of freedom of movement anyway - then it's still crap!

The conspiracy between Galloway and Nate is fairly easy to discover. Nate supposedly works for Shawford Crale at the Palisade. However, everytime I'm in town or at the docks, I find him next to Galloway's store or close to the main boat dock. Why is he always at those locations if he works for Shawford Crale?
If you question him about is presence, he states that he is running official errands. However, he doesn't have any problem dropping his official errand and leading my party to another area of the city. If he were really on an official errand, wouldn't he need to complete it before helping my group? I think this casts serious dought on his credibility.

It has nothing to do with HOF mode it's simply level adjusting.
For instance, when I looked at it with my level 12 - 14 solo monk it was the "upgraded" version. I play normal.
By the by, does this therfor mean that you have to buy the "upgraded" version - that you can't simply wait for it to transform of it's own accord?

This is news to me. This weapon in normal mode would be devastating. I wonder if there are intermediate versions of it as well?
I have no idea whether this item "upgrades itself" automatically, or you need to buy it once you are higher levels. You don't have the Mod that allows HoF items in normal mode installed do you?
I haven't come across any other items like this. I must check this out myself and see whether I get the same thing. now where's that chapter 1 auto save from my solo game......
Can anyone else confirm this?

AFAIK - and I'm pretty sure - this weapon doesn't "auto-upgrade"!!!
...you can buy the "*golden* heart of char name" or what-ever it's called exactly only in HOF mode instead of the "heart of char name" at galloway!
Besides there are many items (almost any "named" one) that have an more powerfull counterpart in HOF!

Yeah, I know.
The interesting thing was that he said he doesn't play HoF mode! Must try and remember to test this tonight after work.
I think my solo cleric was about 14th level at the end of chapter 1.

Ravager, true. Anyone who does the quest and refuses the reward keeps the moonblade. But for a non-good party, its better to just take the gold. Likewise goes for a good party whose fighters have high strength, as you don't get a strength bonus on moonblade damage.
I typically keep it handy to fight against undead.
I think you have to help the priestess get the sword back and then refuse the reward. Paladins and monks automatically do this as they refuse rewards.
My paladin refused the reward and wasn't offered the sword, he was given healing for 1gp
