Blaster vs Heavy
Blaster vs Heavy
I'm deciding between two different weapons that seem to do the same amount of damage to put on my robot. I don't know what the difference between a heavy gun and a blaster, why are they seperate groups? Do the heavy weapons fire more? Some blasters seem to have a higher critcal than heavy, but not all. So what is it that seperates them?

You can equip 2 blasters at once, but only a certain type. Heavy blaster have more damage, and there are also Repeating blasters. Pistols aren't repeating, Heavy blasters are two handed.

My favorite 1 handed gun(pistol) is the Mandalorian Blaster-insane damage-for a pistol. My favorite rifle is only available in the PC version- from Suvam on the Yavin space station. I cant remeber the name but it did like 10-30 damage when fully upgraded. Its pretty pricy though and fyi-heavy weopons i think do more damage-but i usually stick to melee or lightsabers.

There is no difference, at least not in the way you're asking, beyond the stats of a weapon. Heavy weapons are, like their name, heavier- they should do more damage, or fire faster, or whatever. However, some blaster rifles also have similar damage. The only difference is in the weapon type and how it relates to feats. If you have blaster rifle/pistol/heavy weapon feats, those effect specific weapon categories. So, if you have weapon focus and spec with a rifle, you will get +1/+2 to attach/damage, but only with rifles. I know this is kind of a disappointing answer- you'd think heavy weapons would be generally more hardcore- but there are few good heavy weapons in the game (the XBox version, that is).

I have the XBox version too. Hopefully people will read your posts completely and respond accordingly in the future.

Well it does usually say on the description of most repeater (heavy) blasters that they fire faster. Which is what I was asking, do heavy weapons fire faster or something and by how much. So I'm going to take the strongest heavy weapon (ordo's repeater) and what I think is the strongest blaster rifle (jamoh hogra's) which does more damage than ordo's, but I'm going to see if ordo's repeater fires fast enough to make up the damage when I take them out soloing and see which is best to put on my robot.

That's cold, dude. I much prefer being addressed personally and I wasn't aware that the Baragwin stuff was only available for the PC version. Having now checked on the 'weapons' partof this website...
If it's in the Xbox version, then I'd take a look at the Mandalorian Assault Rifle as I'm *pretty* sure that is upgradeable to do some nice damage. If not, by the end of the game HK-47 could do 4-18dmg with Chuundar's bowcaster with a very high attack modifier...

It wasn't intended to be cold, and it wasn't just aimed at you. Steven00009 and you both posted about weapons. The thread was about weapon types, not the individual best weapons, so I said I hoped people would respond accordingly.
In any case, no harm, no foul, right? The main reason I hang out here at GB is precisely because people are so doggone nice and courteous- flamers, trolls, and armchair mods generally don't last long. [warning-shameless plug] Actually, you should consider checking out the Speak Your Mind forum for conversation, other topics, etc.[/plug]

If you do find a difference in ROF or anything else, please post it. I don't think you will, but Lucas Arts games are notoriously spotty.

In conclusion:
I took my main character who has been throughout the game a soldier/guardian and has had relatively high 'to hit attack'. He didn't have any modifiers or features that improved his ability to use a blaster rifle vs a heavy weapon.
When using Ordo's Repeater (fully upgraded) I found it did less damage per hit than Jamoh Hogra's Carbine (fully upgraded). It also didn't seem that Ordo's repeater fired any faster than the Carbine. So I tested the time it takes to kill something with each weapon. Jamoh Hogra's Carbine also proved superior in this demonstration. Taking 12-13 seconds to kill a Wraid while Ordo's Repeater seemed to take 18-20 seconds. (Double Checked)
It seems best to equip my robot with Jamoh Hogra's Carbine along with the Superior Targeting Computer upgrade to give him the Weapon Specialization: Blaster Rifle feature that his class as a droid can't learn otherwise which will add +2 to his rifle's damage. I find it sad that it took longer to type this than actually test the two different weapons...

In further analasis:
I found that using Dual Pistols is far better than a Blaster Rifle. In the sense if you use Casus Fett's Heavy Pistol along with Saul's Sith Assassin Pistol. With the pistols I not only did more damage and killed quicker, but also had a high chance of stunning my enemy.
Using Jamoh Hogra's Carbine (fully upgraded) on my unrepaired HK-47, equiped with the Superior Targeting Computer which adds +1 attack/+2 damage to Blaster Rifles along with Blaster Pistols. I found it takes 18-20 seconds to kill a Wraid. After using Casus Fett's Heavy Pistol and Saul's Sith Assassin Pistol I found it takes about 13 seconds, plus I ended up stunning the Wraid on both tests of Dual Pistols.
The only difference seems to be that I have a higher 'to hit attack' with a blaster rifle which is +24. When using dual pistols I have +20 in main hand and +14 in off hand. Though I miss more, I still seem to kill quicker with the pistols. If only I had gotten the Two-Weapon Fighting features instead of Toughness, then I'm sure Dual Pistols would be even more superior.
In my final conclusion I state that using either Jamoh Hogra's Carbine or dual wielding Casus Fett's Heavy Pistol and Saul's Sith Assassin Pistol while equiping the Superior Targeting Computer is best for HK-47.
Though the dual pistols seems more of the best.

Saul's Sith Assassin Pistol Does 7-19 damage. Unlike regular Sith Pistols, the +Ion damage doesn't target droids only. Mandalorian Heavy Pistol only does 6-13.
Took my main character 22 seconds to kill with a single handed sith pistol and the Mandalorian Heavy Pistol took about 47 seconds. Besides that, just looking at the screen I saw Saul's Sith pistol doing 11-16 damage, while the Mandalorian Heavy Pistol only did 6-14. The sith pistol did do 27 damage, but I think that was just a random critical. Saul's sith pistol also has double the chance of a random critical 19x20 than a Mandalorian Heavy Pistol 20x20. I wonder if the 14 I saw the Mandalorian Pistol doing was it's critical. Probably was...
