Can't answer about Edwin as I don't like him and I've never bothered picking up Haer'Dalis as I often play a Blade but here's some reasons why I like Mazzy
1. She's not your stereotypical halfling (compare and contrast with the dreadful Alora in BG1)
2. She's a great sniper and not bad in melee
3. Her special abilties are nothing to sneeze at
4. Her personality is a lot less irritating than most of the other tank type NPC's
5. Her interactions with Korgan and Jan are quite amusing

Uh... I so hate Keldorn, sure, but... Minsc, Korgan, Sarevok... Isn't tanks the most fun of them all?
As for Edwin: He has 3 extra spells (1 for being specialist mage, and it seems the other 2 are for his amulet) per level. And, he sure as hell is an interesting character. Not annoyingly evil, you can still laugh at him thinking so high of himself, and so on.
Haer`Dalis... Well, he's a blade, one of the most usefull characters in the game. Buff him up, equip him with Carsomyr, and watch him hack away. Blades can be insane, believe it or not.
I don't use him though, as his character is pretty annoying. Sure, the "sparrow" thing I can live with, but no... not going to happen.
~~
So, to summerize, I don't know why Mazzy or Haer should be so strong power-gaming wise, but Edwin is probably the strongest NPC you can pick up. At least in SoA.

@ Thrifalas
Actually I find Minsc's inane rambling the most irritating sound set in the game, second only in the Baldur's Gate series to Alora from BG1. Also Korgan's hostility gets a little tiresome after a while as well.

I can only assume that I missed the point of your question. My initial response was based upon what made Mazzy's character special to me. I'm not sure what else you want?

First off, when you joined this forum, you supposedly agreed to abide by the site owner's forum rules. That meant all of them, all the time. Including this one: "#1 - Flaming, humiliating, ridiculing, or belittling other members will not be tolerated. If you have an issue with another member, take it to private messages or email." You ought to follow that.
If you had a complaint, you should have sent me a personal message--though I explained all the reasons for closing it (duplicate thread; not about BG2), and how it was a violation of Buck's rules, in the thread you refer to. What's more, threads are regularly closed in all the forums at various times, for violating the rules.
My last post here to you, was by way of providing a useful answer to your question. So much for harassment.
In short, you weren't harassed, my parents were married, and you can consider yourself warned. Similar flaming will lead to the loss of your posting privileges.
And now, let's return to what your thread was originally about.

He has moderator abilities in all forums.
GameBanshee isn't a typical internet forum. People here are courteous. A piece of advice Crom- don't stray too far from the forum rules if you want to keep posting.
(It probably isn't a good idea to call a super mod with almost 20,000 posts a "harassing bastard either" )

I'm not threatening you, I'm simply stating a fact. I've already given you a warning, as a moderator. You have one more chance to abide by the forum rules. I linked to them, above. Either you abide by those rules, or you will be out.

Okay, you win. If you find the rules so funny and still want to engage in ridicule, go play in somebody else's sandbox other than Buck's.
