Hi, is there anyone here playing only SOA and not TOB, not even with TOB installed?

:)

When you have ToB installed it's kinda hard to not be playing it as it gives more classes, more spells, higher XP limit, and changes small things in the game. And, there's no reason not to go on to ToB as it's by far the funniest part of the Saga.

Actually, I've kept to the original BGII as much as I can, trying to avoid the expansion part - as I find it to be a comercial money-maker more than a Blackisle RPG.
If I were you I wouldn't bother getting it, unless you're anxious to fix some urgent bugs.

I suppose we're all different that way... :)

Confession

I've only finished ToB twice...

SoA, in my opinion, is the much more fun part of the saga...

In fact, I recently discovered Tutu... A first level character is a little hard to keep alive, but I find myself wishing BGT didn't look so buggy, it would be great to play straight through to Irenicus...

Lower levels are more just so much easier to handle... Keeping track of all those spells gives me a headache...

I do install ToB, though... Mostly just for the "tab" key...

I used to play only Soa for the longest amount of time because I didn't have the money to buy the expansion, but now I have money and I was lucky enough to buy a new copy of Throne of Bhaal for $10.

I still haven't actually reached the expansion levels because I haven't got any save games and I also haven't been in too much of a rush to play Soa all over again anyway...

Still Soa is a very good game, it's also free of the god annoying bug where a person can't be talked to because they're "busy"

I didn't really like installing TOB as it ruined the old Cloak of Mirroring. That cloak used to reflect ANY spell back at the caster. A life-saver especially against Beholders. The new shield just isn't the same- it never reflects/deflects imprisonment spells and the cloak only deflects offensive damage spells. :(

No, because there wasn't for a reason they nerfed it... it used to be the cloak of cheese, remember? :]

I haven't played Throne of Bhaal as many times as I've played Shadows of Amn mainly because high level, overpowered characters bore me after a while (even though I try so hard to develop them), :) and also because Throne of Bhaal, in trying to be a perfect game, leaves so little to chance and so little to the imagination. In Shadows of Amn, it's easier to believe that I can forge my own path and it's easier pretend that I have a unique character and a unique story.

A member here by the name of Snoon once referred to Throne of Bhaal as "Throne of Cheese". I don't quite agree with that sentiment, but I found the insult amusing.

I didn't buy ToB for about 3 years after playing SoA. I wouldn't have bought it then (for pretty much the same reasons VonDondu gives) except that I wanted to play the Tortured Souls mod and others that require ToB. I generally play all the way through, now that I have ToB, but I agree it is a bit too linear.

I must say, though, that the most satisfying game I played was when I had only Imoen, Sarevok and Viconia. I managed to get both the evil characters to convert and the final conversation when they talk you out of becoming a god was quite touching. Haven't played Viconia since out of reverence for that one perfect game.

@Ravager: I think you can get the old cloak functions back by removing the clck26.itm file from your override folder. If that doesn't work, a more sophisticated solution (which also removes the Giant Wiffle Ball effect) can be found here.

Note that work on a weidu version of BGT is now progressing. It's still got some way to go- it's in beta at the moment, which means that it's probably actually more stable than the original BGT, but still has a ways to go. Still, should be quite good when it's done, not to mention something like 10MB.
