The Pontifex is a NPC in the Ritual quest, which is part of the Tactics mod. Tougher than Draconis, but you don't have to fight him.
Which noone besides Weimer knows how to do
OK, since this thread is labeled SPOILER anyway:
Mind Flayer Circlets work on the priestess, so use one, lead her away, kill the golems, report to the Pontifex. You'll get the reward (6 amulets and the armor), a truckload of XP and you don't have to fight the Pontifex.
The following types of spells could work too on the priestes: Maze; Imprisonment / Freedom; all sorts of stun / sleep / nauseating / fear effects. The problem with the ritual is that you can't rest once you've accepted the quest, so there's not much room for experiments and as a consequence there are only few documented ways to solve the quest.

If I'm not mistaken, he betrays you no matter what you do. At least, he made that very clear to me when I spoke to him.

If you solve his quest properly (which is difficult) he doesn't betray you. He says something like "I'm really surprised to see you managed this and now I'm gonna look after the priestess before the angels get there first", hands you the reward and teleports away.
His introduction dialogue is great though and leaves you with the feeling that this is just another quest where you're a puppet on a string.

It's been ages since I last fought him (I somehow can't finish SoA; I always want a different party or a different character), so perhaps a newer version fixed it, or I'm simply quite wrong. I prefer to fight him, though. He gives me such an interesting battle.
