OK, i killed the harpers in athkatla docks district and I think I am ready to move on to chapter 4 now. I have been told that some other harpers come after me. Should I piddle around in chapter 3 till after the harpers come after me or should I move to chapter four now?

@Saumerez: The only time you would have to worry about them is when you come back from the Underdark...they have been known to show up then and cause trouble....
Save your game in more than one slot that way you want have to go back to far.
Plus keep your save before you go to chapter 4 too.

"Vile and evil, yes. But, That's Weasel" From BS's book, MD 20/20: Fine Wines of Rocky Flop.
I heard that when you exit from the Underdark, if a Harper revenge party attacks you right then and there, your game will be screwed as the welcoming party treats you as hostile.
This is such a huge mistake on the game's part since if you want to finish the game you have to either eject Jaheira from your party and pick her up at Athkatla later, or reload from a game before entering Chapter 4 (heading to Spellhold) and adventuring a bit more.

Actually there is a way to avoid the fight, against the harpers after emerging from underdark, when the talk time come's tell jaheira not to say anything, i don't remember for certain, but i think that was what was required to avoid the fight...
Not 100% certain about this, since i loaned my bg2 for a friend who's still playing it...

If you are approached by Reviane's party, the only way to avoid a fight is by having a high reputation and telling Jaheira to stand down her weapons. If it is Dermin's party then there's no way out of fighting him
