Strong, custom-made characters and party

Post by Thrifalas »

After playing through the game with one powerful character I'm interested in creating a group of great strenght, where everyone is... godlike in their own way. Sure, everyone gets pretty strong at the end of SoA or ToB, but we all know the power of a rightly build kensai/mage and so on and so forth.

Now, looking at the "perfect parties" at this site I pretty soon learned that they're more meant for completing the game than be "perfect" in any way. So nothing could be found there.

At first, I was thinking something like a Fighter/Cleric (FoA + Crom), a Fighter/Thief (Carsomyr) and a Sorceress (SoA). A fairly powerful combination, but three is almost too few. Four or five would be more interesting.

So, anyone having any powerful character up your sleeves? How would a combination of 4-5 characters be as powerful as possible? I might consider letting one of those overpowered NPCs in (Edwin, ToB-guy), but it should mainly be custom-made.

Cheese off btw.

//and by custom-made I mean created by the "start a new game", as fair and normal as possible. multi, dual, whatever's ready to kick some serious ass ;)

Definitely a multiclass mage/cleric should be in there. The mage's trigger spells actually allow you to shoot off both mage and cleric spells. And think of the fun if you can create a double of yoruself, then both of you cast anti-undead stuff! Very powerful, indeed.

Good topic. I was thinking of starting something like this myself awhile ago. Here is my list, with explanations:

Kensai/Thief: The ultimate backstabber. I would say dual at level 12, but opinions vary. The Use Any Item high level ability erases all of the Kensai's disadvantages.

Ranger/Cleric: A great tank and can cast both Cleric & Druid spells. Race should be Half-Elven so that both classes can advance throughout the game.

Sorceror: The ultimate spell slinger. Rings of Wizardry and Acuity will allow even more spells through level 7. (There is an Ioun stone that allows an extra 7th level spell as well, but I can't remember which one.)

Cleric/Mage: See fable's post above. Excellent flexibility and can fill in the gaps of the other spell casters.

For a 5th character, pick one from the following. These are more niche players that can be awsome in their way but are not generally as powerful as the above. (Demi-gods, if you will):

Elven Archer: With maxed DEX and the inate +1 for longbows, this can be an excellent sniper.

Monk: At high levels can be a real killer.

Undead Hunter: Only because there are SO many undead in BG2.

1 - Kensai/Mage
2 - Kensai/Thief or Wizard Slayer/Thief
3 - Cleric/Mage
4 - Sorcerer
5 - (Optional) : Sorcerer #2 or Ranger/Cleric (Multiclass) or any "clone" of #1-2-3
6 - (Optional) : Sorcerer #3 or Berserker/Cleric (Dual-Class) or any "clone" of #1-2-3

My personal choice would have to be a dwarven fighter/cleric. I took one through both BG1 and continued through with SoA/ToB. He was by far the most powerful character I've ever created.

Otherwise, I'd say:

multi-class cleric/mage
dual class kensai/thief (dual at 12)
dual class kensai/mage (dual at 12)

That's the base 4 and then choose 2 from

Undead Hunter (so many undead)
monk
Ranger/Cleric
dual assassin/mage (mislead + backstab will allow one to clear out huge areas solo)
multi-class thief/mage (same reason as above)
Crush enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of the women.

Interesting choices, guess there's not many who plays without Kensais nowadays ^^; Guess I'll have to think for a bit as I wanna play through BG1 and will need a thief for that. But then again, Sorc and Monks are unavailable... and Barbs... hmmph. :/

BG1tutu is an option. It makes BG1 run with the BG2 interface and rules... so you can pick a kit at the Character Creation screen.

Actually, I hardly ever play with Kensai because it is too overpowered. But your question was which classes produce the most godlike abilities and Kensais are natural born killers.
