there is a way: just drink a potion of God strength and kick him between his legs:

---you: critical kick (screen shaking)
---Irenicus: spell casting failure
---Irenicus:death

Voila!

A real good way to smack Irenicus with one blow is get Boo to do the "LOW BLOW" at him and then let your party take a good carve of him with every weapon you got !
