how do i turn off the auto save on map changes?

After watching (or skipping) the intro movie with the cool animation, you will get the standard menu, to load game, save game, etc. One of your menu options should be Options. Click on that and you will get a screen where you can fiddle with things like sound volune. There is a box with an "x" in it next to the words Autosave on Map Change, and you want to click once on that "x" to make it disappear.

There's also an options button on the lower right of the screen.
