Does anyone have an idea (troubles with my controls)?

Post by Incertainty »

I recently re-installed my game after letting it lie a long time. Started it up; no problem, movies function just fine, character creation, no problem; and now I have to start playing. Most of my abilities simply refuse to do anything about 3/4th of the time, even things as normal as spellcasting (cleric, so it's not about armour either). When I removed all of Imoen's armour, I could click all I want, her spells did NOT show up, and even forced attack or dialogue wasn't working. Clicking on detect traps resulted in a message 'stopped detecting traps' less than half a second later, with or without armour? So what is this? Do I have to buy a new game?

That's odd. I think if you have access to spells but are not allowed to cast them, they appear 'greyed out'. As for the Traps detection thing, it sounds similar to a problem I sometimes have with programs connected to my joystick. It senses motion and so when tilted forward, it sometimes affects menus moving the selected item up or down.
Anyway, my point is, do you have that kind of a problem anywhere else? It might be a keyboard or mouse issue (update the drivers and check for obstructions - pressing down keys). Otherwise make sure BGII is fully up-to-date.

Ah, lest I forget: I re-installed my game a couple of hours ago, and well, it just solved itself. :) As long as I can play, I'm happy.

Ok, what the hell is this? I though I was ok, as the forced attack and spells and such were working, now I'm still having trouble with my thieving skills, and Imoen just started drinking equipped healing potions out of her own!?
EDIT: oh, btw, I play with a mouse and keyboard, like most here, I imagine, not a joystick
EDIT2: And now I can't even move my characters unless selecting them all together... *sigh*

Try a search for 'wireless' in this forum. I'm not really in the mood to go and link all the threads that asked solutions for this problem, so bare with me. Suffice to say, your wireless mouse and keyboard are the little devils causing your problems.

I don't play BGII with the joystick, it can just sometimes affect games that have any joystick options and sometimes games without them. :(

I just thought I'd mention that my cats cause the same sort of problems when they walk all over my keyboard. I'm not being totally silly and irrelevant here; what I mean is that sometimes when my cats walk on my keyboard, something happens to my keyboard and the game starts doing strange things. I have to turn off my computer and restart it to fix the problem. I don't know if that's related to your problem, but it just goes to show that input devices can act up sometimes.

I found the mood. If you want some more detailed information, you might want to check out my own thread
Or you could try this link, which leads to the bioware forums.

*sigh of relief* Thanks! I'll try what it says there (which, based on my computer skills, could take a while) and get back to you... Thanks!
