Goofed Sybil Quest (Spoilers)

Post by CFM »

Spoiler, regarding the Tenement of Thugs:

Before entering the last room with the dozen or more Thugs, I talked to Sybil. She told me all about the locked backdoor escape plan, updated my journal, then of course disappeared. I killed the mage on the top floor, grabbed the key, and booked out the backdoor escape on the first floor.

Walkthroughs indicate Sybil should be in the Alley, next to the Tenement's backdoor. She is not. I've tried leaving/re-entering the Alley from both map exits. I've tried returning to and killing all the Tenement Thugs. Alas, no Sybil.

Anybody know what I can do to trigger Sybil showing up in the alley?

Are there CLUA console commands I could use to make her appear, like in BG?

An unresolved Assigned Quest in my Journal is more than my mentality can handle. Thanks.

(Using 4 disc game version 1.1, Windows 98.)

I've had that problem too (most of the time). Only once did she appear outside for me :( . But then she only gives you an adder's tear.

Don't know about the CLUA console code. Sorry :( .

Hi CFM,

I had the same problem too. Later I realised the quest entry in the journal was misleading. Instead of sneaking out from the 'secret' door in the last room (which look like a normal wall until you click on it), the actuall 'backdoor' is other door in the previous room....

You'll know it's the correct one since you'll lose the key from the wizard upstair. Then just get Annah to hide in shadows and sneak out...

Hope this help :D

What darkwolf said, but you can also kill the thugs in that last room to complete the quest.

Thank you's for the advice. It seems I went wrong after I talked to Sybil.

After she assigned me the quest, I encountered the stairs leading up to the second floor. Instead of taking the stairs to get the key, I continued to clear the rest of the rooms on the first floor. I encountered a couple of locked doors (which I bashed open), before stoping at that funky secret door leading to the final Thug Room.

I figured the key was for the funky secret door. I went upstairs, killed the mage, grabbed the key, went back to the funky door (via previously bashed-opened doorways), opened the funky door, and rushed out the back door to the Alley. I noticed the key didn't disappear, but not all keys do when they're used (or do they?).

Sounds like I should have got the key first, and *then* cleared out the rest of the first floor.

Since then, I've killed all Barking Dog Thugs in the Tenement (as far as I can tell). Still no Sybil...

Tonight, with the key in my inventory, I'll try closing the doors on the first floor, then re-opening them. If I'm lucky, the key will disappear, and Sybil will be in the Alley.

(That's right... tonight I'm hoping to get Lucky with Sybil in the Alley.)

I think you need to try the room before the secret door you are trying, as darkwolf says. There may be two secret doors (not sure).

The door in question is not bashable.

To be exact, the 'backdoor' is at (x 1320 y 2380). Default key for location is L. Hopefully this time Sybil will appear for you...

I revisited the Tenement of Thugs. The last room full 'o thugs has four entrances/exits:

#1 Door in northeast wall (where Sybil is first encountered)
#2 Door in southeast wall (x=1323, y=2374, locked required key from mage upstairs)
#3 Secret door in southwest wall (x=850, y=2620, closest to Map exit)
#4 Map exit (to the Alley of Lingering Sighs)

First, I talked to Sybil.
Then, I opened (or bashed open) all the remaining doors and containers *except* the ones listed above, to avoid the Thug mob.
Then, I went upstairs and got the key.
Then, I opened the secret door (#3), and booked out the Map exit (#4).

I didn't 'trigger' the quest resolution, because I never noticed door #2. As previously mentioned, door #2 cannot be bashed open (though the other locked door and container *can* be bashed open). Anyways, I went back to the Tenement, and opened door #2 with the key, and the key disappeared ("Item Lost"), and in the Alley was Sybil !!!

A little misleading, it seemed to me Sybil refers you to the secret door (#3). I never tried to open the secret door until I had the key: I assumed it was un-openable without it. When it opened, I assumed it did only *because* I had the key...

Almost forgot: thanks for all the help. An unresolved Quest... would have really... bothered... me.

Forgive the off-topic:

@Platter: I dig your Planescape-Torment.org website (same Platter I assume).

I've been a fan of Ravenloft from the beginning, and I've become a fan of Forgotten Realms via PC games. I *finally* started Torment about a month ago, and it has piqued my curiosity about Planescape. The exerpts from the sourcebooks are nice, not to mention the Soundtrack page. Well done!
