Magic Questions

Post by yaladwen »

Hi all. New here, but a longtime browser.

mage/sorceror/wizard/fighter/marauder.

Level 22, arcane magic 21, nether 10, spellfire 10 currently using the lvl 9 magic scepter from the lord of shadows(fires projectiles).

I have a few questions.

First, does the magic weapons skill increase recharge of weapons for their special attack? Increase dmg from the magic? length of the 'sting' or 'burning' that they cause?

Are their any 'group' rune spells in the game? I am currently only using the rune spell sanctuary(protection from all magic for a few mins) but with my nether magic high enough for deathlord and many other high summons, i would like to use runes to buff my 'group' that i summon.

Also, is there any good place to 'farm' dried homongulus? I know I can simply purchase everything I need to make deathlords, however, summoning demons is fun!

I have also been browsing for info on lvl 9 and 10 chests. Could anyone tell me if there any out there, and where?

Thanks for your help!

P.S. being able to do 60 DMG with magic missile rocks!

I cannot help you with most of your questions, but I can with some.

I think the magic weapon skill is only used as an on/off switch. If you have a weapon with lvl 9 magic and your mag weap skill is 8 the magic part will not work. If you have 9 or higher in the magic weapon skill then it will work. Not sure but seems to be what I am experiencing.

Dried Homongulus - Once you get one of them sell it to a merchant, then you can buy back as many as you want. I have tried to seed all the magic merchants so that I can get what ever I want, as long as I have money for it. I do not know of any way to really farm for this Katal, it is the hardest to get.

I think there was one or two level 9 chests, but do not remember where they were - sorry

Yup, I had my arcane magic up to 30 on my mage char. You can fire of the magic missiles like a machine gun. I have to say though that the magic char had it way too easy in the 2nd half of the game. I had like 70+ blast nova's at the end.

BB

Oh, there is at least one level 9 chest in the shadow ruins (near the end). There are no level 10 chests.

Actually, considering recent experience, I think he's right about charging magic weapons. I couldn't figure it out at first, but two levels of attack for magic weapons makes my current scenario make sense.
Currently, I've got the Sceptor of Storms, and the first time I used it, it sent a lightning strike across the room for a few seconds. After that it would only do that standard little glowing attack that magic weapons do. I never seem to be able to use the lightning strike twice in a row, but the glowing weapon attack works all the time when the lightning strike doesn't. I don't know about recharge time. That only makes sense, but I haven't tested it, and with the unfinished parts of this game, I wouldn't be at all suprised if they didn't fix recharge times, but the weapon simply does it's "powerfull"/"charged" attack in certain intervals. I haven't been able to find a consistent interval yet, so who knows what the truth in the matter may be.
Also, one correction, according to the manual, and based on my experience, your "magic weapons" skill "determines the chance that you can use the weapon's special ability", and this is not a binary on/off ability. I've been able to activate weapons a level, or several levels above my magic weapons skill level, but erratically. However, when my magic weapons skill level is equal to the level of the weapon, the ability is always used. I think the formula to see if the weapon discharges it's ability is (magic weapon skill level/level of weapon). I.E. I have a skill level of 3, and am using a weapon that claims to have a level of 5. I have a 60% (3 out of 5) chance of making the weapons magic ability dischage when I attack.

Also, In my first game I only found a half a dozen chests or so that claimed to be level 9. And I've never seen a level 10 chest. I doubt they exist.

I don't think there are any group spells. The manual claims there are, as do descriptions, but I have seen posts where people complain that their spells are deactivated in multiplayer. I haven't played a multiplayer game, and frankly never imagine myself doing so, but considering the level of completion of this beta, *cough* er game, I doubt they work/exsit.
However, if anybody's ever found any, and used them in a one player game; do they have a better effect than the same single person spell in a one player game?
