Experience Points

Post by Trish Watts »

I noticed yesterday that once I had 6 points of Experience I could not
add anymore. Meaning once I had 6 points and then received another 2 it would default to 0. Is there something wrong here or am I missing something??
Please help.

First of all, you should be able to bank more than six experience at a time (I'm not sure what the limit is, but its fairly high). There are a couple of possible explanations:

(1) You've accidently turned/left "auto-spend" on. Check it on your character screen. If its on, you can turn it off. But it may be the case that the computer is spending your experience points for you. If you're learning new levels in abilities/disciplines without spending the points yourself then that's what is happening.

(2) You're experiencing a bug. You're best option would probably be to start a new game and see if that problem persists. If it does, uninstall/reinstall (+ patch).

Good luck!

For my money, "Auto-spend" is your problem. I've cheat-coded myself up to 500 XP with no problem, so I doubt there is an upper limit.

Go to your Bloodlines desktop icon. You'll want to right click on it.

Click on properties (should be the last of the right click command available).

It should bring up a screen. In the shortcuts tab of that screen you'll see a line called "Target". That line will read something like "C:\Program Files\Activision\Vampire - Bloodlines\vampire.exe"

You just need to add -console to that line. Make sense?

Anyway, it will allow you to pull up the console when in game by hitting the ` key. Good luck.

Well what I described should work. Make sure you're in the "Target" line. Also, I believe you need a space before -console.

Again, prior to a change the target line should look something like this:

"C:\Program Files\Activision\Vampire - Bloodlines\Vampire.exe"

Change it so that it looks like this:

"C:\Program Files\Activision\Vampire - Bloodlines\Vampire.exe" -console

Thanks for your help - it was because I didn't put a space before console.
Unreal. Anyway I have worked it out but I still want to get rid of the bug
in the game. Not really the same now I can have unlimited everything.
Thanks for all your help - really kind of you.

Well, the most important thing about cheats is always that you shouldn't use them to ruin your game experience.

So, for example, skip the tutorial and give yourself 2 xp directly, but DONT give yourself 500 xp at game start "so I can pump up everything to max". This might be fun shorttime but will make the game boring on the long run.

The rule about cheats is the cheat should guide you, not play you. You use them to find out what to do, but the ultimate guide is to find out how to *not* use them.

Problems With Console

Now have some problems using "console". Now it freezes the screen
every time I try to add something. Not sure what is happening.
Also won't quick save anymore (F9) - can only save manually. Any
ideas anyone???
Dont really want to cheat at all but if there is a bug in the game re XP points then I have to be able to give myself more than 6 XP points.
Any patches available to help fix problem???

Have you already applied the official patches? If not, make sure to do that. You may want to apply the unofficial patches as well (make sure to install 1.2 official, then 1.2-1.4 update, and then 1.5 patch), if you've not already. All the patches can be found here.

Otherwise, I have no idea how to fix your problem. I don't use the console very much.

If the console freezes, just enter "questlog" as a command there.

You'll go into the questlog in the game itself. After you've closed it, everything should be back to normal.

This tip was actually written exactly at the place where I got the tip how to activate the console at all...

It also helps to activate the console when already at the Quest Log, Character Sheet or the game menu you get when you press Esc. When you close the console you just exit any of those by pressing Esc.
