quite a few people that i've heard of from the net use a sorcerer system for the clerics, some even go so far to making up spells on the fly (which is tough on the dm but is increably fun for both the player and dm if done well) Image

For those of you who have stated the good points of the sorcerer, I commend you...i love them myself...they are indeed powerful...far more powerful than any mage or even fighter/mage if played right. I am currently playing a sorcerer my self...and with minsc and korgan tanking...my sorcerer can wipe the floor with any enemie from behind...I don't know how everyone plays...but I know this...there are plenty npc's can serve as fighers and or mages but none that an even compare to the shear power of a sorcerer. (disclaimer) if you don't pick the right spells then yes your sorcerer will suck but with the right spells...they are death in a bottle.

I would love to play sorceress. I have four mage and a druid, it is still not enough! I have only slept a few times in the game and I only use spell when it is needed. That is why the dragons are scared of me, especially when I open my can of whoop-ar$e. Image Image Image
Sorcery and Shadow together as one, the arcane and the dark united. Through our knowledge and skill none can stand against us. We are as one, infallible and invincible. The Shadow Mages.

IMHO, sorcerors and mages both complement each other as spellcasters as sorcerors have the flexibility that a mage lacks, and mages have the spell capacity that sorcerors don't. A sorceror and mage together make for a better party than either alone, or two of each.

Speaking of sorcerers, why do they need a high intelligence? It's not like they use it to learn spells. The only thing it would be used for is lore. Yet, the game (and probably the manual) clearly state that the sorcerer's prime requisite is intelligence.

Also dont forget that camping and rememorizing is quite easy to do if you dont have the right spells for an encounter if you are playing a mage. The sorcerers ability to cast any spell in his repetoire at will is a non-ability.

He simply has less to choose from (though can cast an additional spell, same as a spec mage I believe).

The 17th level sorcerer has 5 more spells than a specialist mage (2-2 on level 6-7 and 1 on level 8) and 13 more than a mage.
Dynamic casting as a non-ability? Interesting argument...Well, if you don't care how many rests do you need to complete a quest (the program doesn't care) then it is really a non-ability. I could imagine that such a mage have a basic set of spells and as he encounters something special, he retreats to memorize for the special encounter. And probably all of the encounters can be won with the slots avaliable for a "simple" mage.
