Raiders Quest issue/problem -- help !!

Post by GDF'x »

Hi fellow Fallout 2 gamers !

I recently got Fallout 2.Yes, I know it's old and all, but it is simply amazing.I used to play Jagged Alliance 2 like a maniac some years ago so I guess I'm in to the genre. So I made my way through most quests, but got quite stuck / idealess on the so-called "Kill the Raiders" quest.Problem is, as you would imagine, I cannot find the damned base.I've tried soooo many walkthroughs, therefore I find myself a little bit confused."Just south of Vault City" / "Four map clicks north of Broken Hills" / "South-southwest of Vault City".By God,I've scouted that area soo much and coudln't find anything.I've studied the map over at NMA but that didn't help, because it was low-res, couldn't see that well.I need to do this quest, I need some XP points for gaining 11th level.Sure, I could go and do another town, New Reno and so on...but I waaant this one :) ) ! Must this "Raider base" show up on the map, with "Unknown" or something like that? I read one of the FAQs regarding this question of the Raiders quest and it said that "both Wallace and Stark from NCR give you the Raiders quest".If so, I did not recieve this as a standalone quest on the PipBoy (Status->Vault City). What am I doing wrong?? Oh,enough babbling around :D !Please help ! Awaiting further notice/replies.Thanks a lot !

Those information are correct. If you travel straight from Vault City to NCR (click the NCR button on the right) you should spot an unknown place north of Broken Hills. You found a cave there and the Raider's Base within.

Still nothing

Hi.Thanks for the fast reply.I've tried it both ways : Vault City -> NCR, NCR -> Vault City and STILL NOTHING !!! No "Unknown", nothing.I don't know how I can provide more information, it still doesn't pop up. I play with the latest patch, v1.05 (the unofficial patch).Should that matter? I've tried taking screenshots of the game, and they turn up quite black, so that somebody could pinpoint the exact location of the frustrating Raider Camp. So, what now? It still doesn't come up, maybe the patch is the problem.Who knows ?? Any ideas ???

Thanks

Sounds like a bug. Or then you've reached a point where Raider's Base can't be found anymore (Vault City has solved the Raider problem). This sounds unlikely if you're at lvl 11. You do have the quest "Find Raider's base" or something like that in your Pip?

In any case I think something is messed up and you can't find it anymore. I've never tried those unofficial patches myself, cause I think unofficially added stuff doesn't belong to the game, even if they only fix bugs or balance the game.

Hmmm...this sounds like another little mistake I've made.Well I've read what you wrote, thought a bit and actually managed to find out that I don't have that quest in my Pip after all !

What should I do ? I believe that I must talk with Lynette or somebody. I also remember that Stark from Vault City does not mention that he wants me to go and find the Raiders Base. When I tell him "About those raiders..." I can only select the "Nevermind" option.OK, so I guess that I must go and ask that Stark person from NCR (the place where I am at the moment, picking off G11s and M60s from guards - yes I spend some time stealin' stuff, I like it ;) ) about the Raiders.

But also, look at what I've found in the changelist from version 1.03 : "- Raiders Base is now hidden" !!! Confusing, huh ? Maybe it's just hidden :D .Oh well, guess it's another oversight, like in that Ghost Farm -> Modoc quest that I've had some troubles solving.

Need I revert to 1.02 ???? Or should I go and talk to Wallace or Stark, whoever that is, and get that quest ? I'll keep you posted ;)

Thanks again for the input,LoneRider

Latest Update...nothing about the Raiders Base Location :( (((

Well I've been trying to get my mind off those gdamned Raiders and did most of the NCR quests, thus ending with a G11, some 3 Jackhammers, 13000+ and a lot of other things.Bloody Raiders !!! :) Now I think I'm going to take that Brahmin Caravan thing from NCR, that will get me to Broken Hills, I'm going to take some quests over there.

I've also explored the area north of Broken Hills, where supposedly the Raiders Base is, ended up killing a poor band of Raiders, looting.Ofcourse I found a cave but....my "luck", obviously, it was full of Radscorpions...CTRL+L :D .It's the second time I've encountered "A band of raiders", killed them all, looted them, entered the caves and found useless Radscorpions.

So...still no Raiders :( As a desperate solution, I will try to de-patch my game, regress it to 1.02.Hope it doesn't make my current savegames "too new" :) .And if it does, I've already copied my entire Fallout 2 directory, just to be on the safe side.

:( :( Need I say more ? My tragic, totally melodramatic and kwappy :D story remains the same, no Raiders, Wallace and Stark say nothing about their Base, when trying to enter a map square which should "house" the Raiders Base, I get nothing more than a Desert Desert Map, empty  , no Cave, no nothing.

Please try to further help me or else give me a kinda well-deserved slap on the wrist because my game has been bugged or anything like that.

Again, screenshots are quite one BIG HUGE COLLOSAL PLUS, maybe a in-game map from the 1.02 version, with the <quote from a FAQ> "inconspicous green circle south south-west of Vault City" <end quote> on it will help. And if I'm provided with a "screenie", I'll try and scout the "living daylight" :D out of that square on the map.If that fails, then it is time to move on...

Thanks in advance ;)

You'll get the quest from Vault City's "Sheriff" (was it Wallace, can't remember). It might be your stats are too low, if you don't get the quest from him. Some quests need specific attributes to get required dialogue options.
I don't know about that patch 1.03, but that could be the problem if it contains some modifications concerning Raider's Base. The Radscorpion cave sounds right though. I think you don't mind a little spoilers at this point. I'll write some specific information about Raider's Base, so don't read further if you don't want it all.

*******
The Base is hidden in a cave, where you find also Radscoprions -giant ones. As you enter the area, you found yourself outside of the cave. Inside you'll probably find some mines and "trap holes", which drop you down to Radscorpion lair (you can avoid these by staying near the walls). If you hit the lair, you have to find ladders up (north-west corner) to climb back the original cave level. You'll find an exit grid opposite side of the caves, where you entered. Bingo, you've found the base (and you're likely in trouble :) .
******

This is how things are in 1.02. I have no idea what changes are made in unofficial patches.

"...And that's the way the cookie crumbles" !!!

FINALLY !!!

Jeez Louise, this was a handful.Yes, I've done it :D , I have found the Raiders Base !!!! Bring on the keg :) :) ! Well, I depatched to 1.02, so that the Raiders Base won't be "hidden".I then tried to search for it, maybe it will pop up as Unknown.Which it did not, still didn't pop out.So I saw something about a Raider Map in New Reno from a FAQ (Darn, I was desperate !), closed in a safe.Got it from there and BOOM it appeared on my PIP.

Sweet, now I have found my peace and can continue.Oh I want to see the look on those Raiders' faces when I blast them with my Pancor, when Cassidy bursts them with <again> *his* Jackhammer, it will be Sulik's first time :D with a P90, he said he's good with SMGs also, so why not, their surprised faces when they see that they cannot penetrate my Combat Armor and so on... :) Bring it, Raiders !!! :D

Thanks again LoneRider for helping me and giving me info about those damned Raiders.

Problem solved, weeeee ! :D :)

Misc stuff here.Well cracked those Raider skulls, only using two Super Stims, pretty nice.I totally enjoyed Sulik's skill with the P90, I though that I had made a mistake when I combat control-ed him to Charge, but that ended up being quite a life-saver, he just ran to go point blank and then bursted.I saw this happening some 6-7 times, good job pack rat.And speaking of packrats, I filled my trunk with a lot of FN FALs, Assault Rifles and so on.Things are improving ;)

Yeah and I'm going to upload a screenie (wow figured out that there is quite an useful combination of F keys : F1 (look) -> ESC -> F12, so I managed to take a screenshot with the ravages of Sulik's P90 :D .Too bad I did not posess this "skill" :) earlier, my 350 HP eye-shots with bursts from my Jackhammer would've been great for a Fallout2 screenie collection :)

Well this is the end of my lil' thread
GG LoneRider :D !

No problem. Still, it seems unpatching didn't help at least for your current game. A little stange you have to find the map from New Reno, cause I haven't got any connections between Raiders and New Reno's family until I've found some documents at the Raider's Base.

I allmost have to suggest you put that unofficial patch back. It seems the current game is still running the version you had when you started and there might be some problems if you change it middle of the game (f. ex. some areas the game suspect to be there, but the files are missing). Just a guess, it might as well run without problems.

I don't know how you unpatched the game, did you just install the 1.02 and overwrite everything? If that's the case I'd safe-copy your saved games, uninstall the whole game, remove the whole Fallout2 directory (be sure your safe-copies aren't in), re-install it and patch the version you original had. I have had some serious problems with wrongly installed versions, when I messed the installation of 1.02 patch. The game ran somewhere between 1.0 and 1.02 and there were some really strange things.

Might be overreacting ;)

The raiders are commisioned by Mr Bishop into forming an alliance with New Reno to fight off the raiders.

~

In the Slavers camp in NCR there's a footlocker with a map to the raider camp as well if I'm not mistaken.
