Telos lightsaber crystal semi-cheat (spoilers)

Apparently if you talk to the unscrouplous merchant in Entertainment Module 081 and then save the game, the color of the crystal he's selling will change. Just wondering, do you need to just save or does it have to be an auto-save? I'm getting different answers from different guides

The inventory of a merchant isn't fixed until you speak to them for the first time. So, if you have a savegame from before that (it doesn't matter what sort) and go back, you will get a subtly different inventory from the random loot system.
