Just curious to know what your guys opinions were on what the best specialty mage is. I am thinking about playing one in the near future so any feedback would be great.

I had an Invoker (supporting character in my party). My brother said this character was good, and I didn't bother to read all the different specialisations and such. This mage worked for me ... an Invoker can't use and learn spells that are mind-affecting, but I'm more into direct damage, so that was fine.

If you're talking about Baldur's Gate 2, no doubt conjurer is the best. They cannot cast "divine" magic, which is not a must have spell.

I would definately say Conjurer's are the best specialist mages. I have a half-elf conjurer with Str(18) Dex(18) Con(18) Int(18) Wis (18) and Cha(3)...(new char in BGII), I sacrified Char cause i knew i could get the ring of human influence then cast the level 1 spell friendship to buy stuff real cheap. I have to say he kicks some serious butt!!!

I'll probably catch flack for this one, but I was never too fond of Necromancy spells, so when I played mage in BGI and IWD, I did Illusionist.
