A few questions from the new girl.
A few questions from the new girl.
Hey there. I'm kind of new at this so go easy on me. My first question is should I have played BG1 before BG2 or does it really matter? My second question is what NPC's should I have in my party? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Oh and I almost forgot to ask how many other women are on this forum besides me?
Thanks
Thanks
As for if you need to no. Will it explain the story better yes.
As for who to have in your party that would be based on how you plan on playing the game.(Good,Bad,Mage,Fighter)
As for your 3 ? They will have to answer that their selfs. I can say there seem to be alot.

Don't know of any omen besides you, but...I've got lots in my party.
You Don't have to have played BG1, but BG2 would be more fun if you did. Also helps to have read some of "The Forgotten Realms" books.
I'm on Chapter 6, & I won't spoil anything by telling you who's in my party. I did most of the game with Aerie, Keldorn, Valygar, Nalia, and.......oh, yeah Yoshimo. LOL
Throughout the game I had Cernd, Haer'Dalis, Minsc, Anomen & Korgan, so I could complete some side quests. Although I definely prefer the first 5. I'm a Ranger, so I really put alot of magicusers in my party to good use.
Anyway, hope this helps...good luck in the game, let me know how it turns out.

Welcome Katie,
If you haven't played BG1 and you can get it cheap it is probably worth the trouble (but it is a big game too). BGII on it's own is still a fine game but many of the NPC's are carry overs from BGI.
Which NPC's? A party should have a Warrior, a Priest, a Thief and a Wizard. Which NPC you choose for each role is partly taste and partly availablity. There are many threads on this subject but if you don't want the game 'spoilt' go with the obvious/available.
There are quite a few female forumers, but they can speak for themselves - Curdis

It doesn't really matter if you've played BG1 before BG2, but it will help you understand a bit about your character's background in the game.
Good people to have in the party...Mages, priests/clerics (healers are a MUST in this game), fighters, and a thief to find the traps and pick the locks that can get you cool stuff.
As far as are there other females? Of course! I'm one of them, but for a computer RPG there are quite a few that love Baldur's!

Newbie? Go with balance in your party, then. Like someone else said, get at least one thief, one mage, one cleric, one fighter. Imoen and Nalia are great because they are mage/thieves, and can double as both. They are dual-classed, which is a lot different than multi-classed (multi-classing has many unique benefits and penalties). What I'm trying to say is that doubling as two classes isn't always good, but in Imoen and Nalia's case it is because you don't need a real thief if you have one of them.

Ok, to make you feel better, I still haven't played BG1. Some things don't make sense, but it all seems to add up in the end. You mostly just figure out what's going on.
About parties, I used Nalia, Amoen (no one likes him, but I think he's the best), Jahiera, Minsc (of coarse), and Anomen. I am playing as a Paladin.

Hi, Katie. I strongly recommend to play BG1--not for the sake of storyline, but because it's a great game!!
If you want to avoid spoilers, you'd better not look around discussions. Many of them do contain some spoiler, ie. discussion about certain NPCs or items (Many members probably will disagree with me, though). If you come across problems, just post it. Some one know the answer.
Oh, and I am a woman, so special welcome to you!

Your party makeup will depend a lot on what profession you choose to make the protagonist character. As a beginner, I agree that you should go with at least 2 people that are Clerics or Druids. You ought to try having several NPC's come and go in the early part of the game to do some side quests and get a feel for who you like. Just be sure to tell anyone you are dismissing from the group to wait for you in the Copper Coronet so you can find them again.
I played BG1, and short of the story you don't miss much going to straight to BG2. The only advantage is that if you have the expansion pack (Tales of the Sword Coast) you can start BG2 at a higher level than you normally could (161,000 exp pts instead of 89,000). You do not get to keep any of your magic items without cheating, and you have to change a lot of aspects of your character anyway. Some NPC's who might have died in BG1 are part of BG2, and suddenly are no longer dead....you get the point. I would not play BG1 now unless you have a LOT of free time on your hands or if you are REALLY wanting
to follow the "who am I" storyline closely.
I'm a guy, but my daughter is playing, and she is a beginner, too.

If you bring in your character from the BG1 expansion then you do not get some of the saving throws that you get if you expand from the 89000 lvl.
The two games upgrade characters in different ways due to the higher characters in BG2.

I played a blank tape on full volume. The mime who lives next door complained.

I'd have to get drunk every night and talk about virility...And those Pink elephants I'd see.
Would I be right in assuming that geh4th knows what a saving throw *is* but does not know what the difference between BG1 imports and BG2 saves is.
