Riddle Me This...

Post by Trish Watts »

New problem - amongst the many problems I have had with this game.
Finished this quest and at end when I jump into boat - motor sounds
and instead of going to next part I get booted out of the game and back
to Desktop of my computer!! What is happening here?? Have tried several
times and same thing keeps happening? Have I done something wrong or
is it a 'bug'. Any patches to help get to next section of game???

Check out this thread.

Likewise, the unofficial patch is suppose to fix the society of leopold crash. I've never had a problem with it, so I can't vouch for that.

Damn! That is down and out fiendish, Faust (no pun intended). Thanks also to Intergalactic for a devilish bit of insight.

Still Confused

OK so you add the "console" - I've done that. I can only open the console in the game. Where do I get the "safegame" that is referred to called "Johansen". Is that the patch?
Sorry but this is all too much for me - not very simple I'm afraid.
Anyone got an easier reply for me?

Johansen doesnt even follow me to the boat!
I can barely make it there myself in time.

That is not what is intended. Load a saved game that is your own, before the boat. Then open the console, and enter the commands given. That will save Johannsen (the archeologist) and relocate you to where you were supposed to be after getting on the boat.

If you have rescued Johannsen, don't worry about him. Even if he doesn't seem to be keeping up, he is. Save yourself and he will be saved with you.

Have you installed any patches at all? If not, let's start there. Install the official patch (1.2) and then the unofficial patch (1.6). I linked them in my previous post. Basically, the official patch will have an .exe file you'll need to activate. It will then do the work for you. The unofficial patch needs to be downloaded then unzipped into your Bloodlines directory. Once you do this, your problem should be fixed. If it's not, well, then we can move on to the more complicated things descriped in that post.

I think your best bet is to install the official patch which, among others, adresses that bug. Download it (here) and install it.

If you don't want to download that patch, then try the console workaround. I'll try to explain it short and sweet:

As far as I've seen, you started the game with the -console added and the console appeared. Close it by clicking X in the upper right corner of it. Now you get the normal game menu. Reload your last save and play until you need to escape Society of Leopold.

Get near the boat, the best way is to stand on the edge of the pier, by the boat, but do not enter the boat. Press Esc on keyboard (so it will be easier to return from console). Then open the console by pressing the key left of "1"-key and above "TAB"-key on your keyboard (whatever it is marked).

Now, as Intergalactic says:
A console will open. Type:
SaveJohansen() (press enter)
changelevel2 la_hub_1 taxi_landmark (press enter)
( Or as Nosferatu: changelevel2 la_hub_1 sewer_map_landmark )
Take care to get the capital letters right. If you get an "not defined" error
you probably messed up with the spelling.

Now close the console again and return to game. If you have some mobility or inventory problems afterwards, check the above mentioned thread again for tips. Otherwise, enjoy the game!

I hope this was helpful.

Thanks guys for your help. I understand better now.
I'll try it tonight and see how it goes. My other problem is the
console keeps freezing the screen when I use it - still I'll try it
tonight. Lots of stuff wrong with this game but I love it just
the same! Bummer.

The bugs in bloodlines are pretty relative. I didn't have any actual problems (nothing major) during my play through. Yet others experience a myriad of issues. I guess its relative to systems and individual graphics cards.

As for the console, your best bet to resolve that issue is to use it while you have the save/load/option screen up (escape key). It doesn't freeze as often then.

Thanks Raa

Brilliant! I did just as you wrote and it worked - I am sooo happy.
Not only did it work but all my other problems seem to have vanished.
I can quick save again and the screen has stopped freezing. Seems
all is back to normal - cant thank you enough!
Just one other quick question - regards ammo is there anywhere else I
can purchase it from besides Pawnshop in Santa Monica?

Trish ;)

[/QUOTE]

It depends what type of ammo you are looking for. However, all the merchants sell some ammo. Mercurio in Santa Monica, Fat Larry in Downtown, the guy in the RedSpot in Holly Wood, and Tseng's shop in Chinatown.

Thanks Faust

Thanks for your help - you really do know so much about this game.
I will check out some of these places and see what turns up.
