Aribeth driving me nuts *SPOILER for Hotu end*

Post by ladyblack »

OK, with Valen it was great. Learn his true name, get rid of the Demon taint, have him on your side for the rest of the game.

However, I am now replaying the end of the game with my powerful pure wizard, who's female, and I decided to take along Aribeth. Firstly, Aribeth seems to die more quickly than Deekin, which has got to be a first. I have asked her not to join in fights because I just wasted resurrection spells bringing her back to life. I got through to the end, bought her true name, did the "OK, you've repented, get over it" thing, and then when we talked to Mesty she STILL wavers between betraying me and fighting for him. I have to command her, which I didn't want to do. Why? When does this woman say enough is enough? Do we get a nice bit at the end where she says, "Well, thanks for that, I feel like I can go on with my life now?" I can't seem to the option to romance her either, and of course, I didn't do it during the game as I thought buying her true name would sort her out.

I can't kill Mesty with my wizard, which is why I'm asking. My only option right now is to go back and satrt Hotu again to try and bump her up a level. I still have a Fighter and a Monk game going on, but I don't want to make her their side kick in case I have the same problems at the end.

Highlight for spoilers: if you can't fight Mephistopheles on your own or even with your henchmen, there is one other way, but it requires a lot of money. When you get to the Knower of Names, you need to persuade her to tell you Mephistopheles' real name. I had to ask her for her name and then commanded her to tell me his. You can then use the real name in the last battle. It doesn't make for that great a fight, I know, but it's one choice you have.

As for the Aribeth problem... no matter what kind of character I played, I always ended up having to either fight Aribeth at the end, command her, or persuade her. I think if your character has high enough persuade, you'll manage. It doesn't seem to matter either what kind of relationship Aribeth has with you. I started out on the journey with her being snippy and cold but ended as 'friends', but I still had to persuade her. Same with the fighting. I think Aribeth was simply scripted that way - maybe to make that final fight not so easy.

Thanks for that, but if you beat Mesty, what happens to her? You know, you get the bit about each character to say where they went etc. etc. - I can't go back to the Knower of Names, because I've now saved past the point where I could get sent to Cania again. I could start part three again, I guess, maybe my Wizard would get bumped up a level.........
