Should I..?

Post by BlueOval »

I just completed the paladin quest, so I have options for Heavy Armor, Heavy Shields and Heavy Weapons, plus Channel. My character is a Rogue/Adept --> Paladin/Budoka --> Ninja Lord. I put a point into Channel. Should I add any more?

I'd also like to know if it would be better to start putting points into the Heavy stuff or stick with medium armor and weapons. I found a greatsword during my travels and my speed's like +123. I switched from the katana to test it after putting 5 points into H. Weaps and the greatsword was S-L-O-W.

Are there heavy armors comparable to the imperial medium armor with added benefits like parry or strike? I don't want to waste any exp points into a skill I won't use. I currently have 7 in M. Armor and M. Weaps, 5 in L. Pole, 7 in Throw and Bows, and 5 in M. Shield.

Prior to making Lord I'll need to put 10 pts into Ninjutsu - figure I'll be near level 26 or so (getting the 10 in Parry was hell!). From posts I've read it seems the average level to finish the game is 34 or so, thus my worry about wasting exp points.

Only put points in skills that you use. I'd recommend you make the switch to heavy armor (see our equipment section for what's available), but like you I prefer medium weapons to heavy weapons.

Putting more points into channel won't hurt (although I'm not sure how much it will really help, either), but if you don't use a lot of magic, then don't worry about it much. Only advance it while it's cheap.

Why are you putting points into ninjutsu? Are you planning to use it? If you're just putting points into it to meet the requirements for ninja lord, then don't bother since the requirements aren't checked.

Level 35 might have been where people finished the game before the 1.3 patch, but now I'd guess you'll finish closer to level 25.

25-34 on avg to finish? Damn... Hehe maybe it's just because I straight up quested instead of any actual killing, but I beat the game at level 17 on my very first toon, on which I had no clue what so ever in what the hell I was doing... I ended up skimping in the Irynthbl place, and went out manually so I could explore abit more on that character (I had a save at that point, so I wasn't at a point where the moonbridges were useless, and I actually BEAT the game. That is, I survived the very last fight)

As far as armor... Im not sure the extra points in Heavy is worth it. To be honest, the only decent stat HA i have found, are Helmets. One in Tomb of Souls, and other one I found in Draedoth. And I think the Gas Mask in Naga is HA... but then again, if you fight in that when you dont need to, somethin wrong there...

HWeapons... Slower, yes, but my first toon had about 250+ speed with like 3 penalty. To me, the damage was well worth being a bit slower. I did about 60-90 in the specialized combo (The moves past the standard ones... the ones granted at rank 5 of a weapon skill) Most of the time if I am surrounded by a lot of mobs, I will start going in reverse and swing away. The attack difference is MUCH faster. 30-40 damage hits in seconds is pretty damn good IMO. Works well from what Ive seen. Or if im doing Hit and Runs on a boss, Ill go in swinging while I jump towards the mob. Fast damage aswell, and I can do damage before, as, and after I land (I backflip the hell out of range of any melee attacks :)

That black plate looks nice as all hell, but I don't see matching legging nor do I see any legging that gives as much of a parry bonus as the imperial. I currently have the imperial chest, legging and boots for parry boosts and the samurai shoulder coverings and gloves for the strike boosts (not to mention charms, rings and whatnot). I don't want to give up the boost to my parry just for a higher armor rating.

Is the black plate for sale anywhere in the game or do you have to lucky enough to come across it in a chest or something? Same with some of the heavy helms I see on the list such as the Conqeror's Helm or Daimyo's Kabuto?
my first toon had about +250 speed
Holy schnikes! How did you get that kind of speed boost at lvl 17? If I get my speed up that high I may move to H. Weaps, but I prefer the attack speed of the katana to the higher dmg of the greatsword (not to mention the +1 to strike I get with the katana). On the other hand, if I happen to run across the Barbtongue Runeblade or one of the magical heavy swords I'd most likely switch then too.

Same question as regards the black plate - am I sure to run across these awesome heavy blades or is it all luck?

Had about 80 to all of the stats (not honor). Intellect, Dexterity and Agility are the ones I got to about 90. Not to mention my jewelry. As for the Daimyo's Kabuto, I got several in Ulm... in the room with Armory Cabinets, and Chests. Might double back and look for chests and such. When I get to the higher end dungeons, I usually will never pass up a chest. 6-7-8 are the only ones worth getting IMO. They seem to be the only ones that drop the good chit.

You are garunteed a blade that I use, and have since the Tomb of Souls from which I acquired it. You have to kill Voratuus in order to get it, I believe. I didnt wanna play his stupid games, nor did I seek to sacrifice my attributes. So I kill him with ranged, and spells. If hes in front, then he will block all the spells, or most anyway, from monsters behind him. Thus, adding to the damage done to him. Regardless, keep a few shields with you. Its a pain to have your only one break on you in the middle of a dungeon. Look up a walkthrough for Tomb Of Souls... That site I gave you a day or two ago will have it (the one that gives info on classes aswell). The Way I got it, was I killed Voratuus, went to the second watcher, and he will let you choose between 2 rooms. The Demon's Steel, and the Demon's Spell. That site explains what comes from each room, and you can only choose one (Demons steel is armor/weapons) You open the sarcophogus thingy up, and a demon pops out. Kill that. Its a mini-me version of Voratuus (no where near as strong... just look the same).

FYI, the Blade that is given as a reward, is the best one I have seen in game damage wise. With my speed, it works very well. 11-27 damage... Blade of Death. takes about 12-13 in Heavy Weapons to use without penalty.
