Anyone have non-cookie-cutter builds?
Original PCs?

Dual-axe dwarven kensai is quite unusual, and works well. And what about a halberd wielding gnome barbarian?

No guys, I meant characters that you don't hear about very often. You have your popular chars like dwarven berserkers, elven sorcerers, carsomyr paladins, dual katana kensais, etc. But I'm interested in more original characters, like a spear paladin, a crossbow archer, gnomish barbarian, and other chars which very few people play and could be good roleplaying material.

Some of the NPCs are fairly original:
Minsc, the Rasheman berserker (a Ranger who can go berserk)
Mazzy, the halfling Fighter who wants to be a Paladin and has special powers
Aerie, the elf who crosses racial boundaries to be a Cleric/Mage
Haer'Dalis, the Tiefling Blade who has modified skills
Viconia, the Drow Priestess of Shar
The new NPC in Throne of Bhaal is also a special kind of Fighter "kit"
There are also some NPCs who make cameo appearances who were based on characters submitted to a contest to have your own character appear in BG2, and they are pretty unusual: Habib (the skittish but remorseful Thief), Kruin (the Githyanki Wild Mage), and Reynold (the Fallen Paladin).
To be honest, I don't know if any permissable race/class combination can be considered all that unusual. I'm sure all of them have been played by many different people. Also, I've never really thought that weapon proficiencies identified a character, since I tend to switch weapons depending on what's available.
I think "unusual parties" have far more possibilities. A group of Thieves, a group of Bards, a group of Fallen Paladins--those definitely break the mold.

I played a Female Half-Orc Swashbuckler once. Also an Archer dualed to Cleric (specializing in Slings, of course).
About that last point, while I agree that weapon choice doesn't exactly define a character, it certainly does have a big impact on how the character is played. And you have to admit, a Halfling wielding two-handed weapons is certainly ... unusual.
