One HUGE concern:
Do we have the special FX technology to properly render the might which Boo possesses? We may have to bring Lucasfilms into this project...

of course. the only good thing about the film would be the battles and the special fx, so dont need to waste money on the storyline, just on super effects. i'd love to see a fireball hitting a bunch of zombies and then russel crowe chopping up a troll, etc, etc.

Some of you have mentioned John Malkovich...wouldn't he be great as Minsc???

Seriously though...with all the stars you all have opted for no film-budget in the world would cover all that.....if it ever happened I'd prefer seeing a lot of unknown faces in the movie.....as for "LOTR" I can hardly wait to see it...(seems so promising)

I agree..Maybe not so many stars, though I definately think we should work Rutgar Hower (SP? I'm terrible with names... **blush**) in there somewhere. Image But at least with lesser-known actors there'd be less "Oh no, they cast HIM to play HIM? He should've been..." Yadda yadda yadda. Image

David Duchovny as Anomen. Like Mulder, Anomen is obsessed with his sister, and he believes the truth is out there.

It might be better in animation, I think. And I rather like to see stories outside of the main BG1/2, such as how Minsk and Boo met, or Gorion's encounter with Firkraag.

Sir Anothony Hopkins would be great at playing Keldorn's part if he wasn't so old or maybe Sean Connery. Jet Lee would be good for Yoshimo. Russel Crow as Anomen. And oh yes, Carmen Electra as Jaheria. Too bad Faith Hill isn't an actress she might make a good Aerie

What about Christopher Plummer for Irenicus. You know, the guy who played General Chang in the Star Trek movies. He is bald, and plays his role quite well. He has the voice and the attitude, plus the look.

ok, maybe not so many stars, but if any character is to have a star, these would be them:

irenicus - bloke who played the mummy (patrick stewart is too much of a good guy)
viconia - salma hayek
valygar - wesley snipes
anomen - tom cruise (without the mullet, they look like twins)
cernd - liam neeson (in a quigon jin type role)
jan - danny de veto (no question - he makes an excellent conman)
yoshimo - jet lee
nalia - helena bonham carter (posh enough)
keldorn - russel crowe (connery and hopkins are too old - but maybe crowe is too young for this part?)
haer'dalis - ray park (darth maul, also toad in xmen)
imoen - angelina jolie
jahiera - jennifer lopez (carmen electra if she could act)
minsc - arnie (malkovic is too small)
edwin - richard e grant (accent and arrogance - perfect)

there could also be cameos for the following:
christopher walken as a cowled wizard
harrison ford as a government bloke
stallone and brendan fraser as mercenaries
alec baldwin as renal bloodscalp
kevin costner as ribald

heres a few more possible characters:

anomen - tom cruise (lose the mullet and they look identical)
nalia - helena bonham carter (posh)
cernd - liam neeson (in a role similar to quigon jin)
edwin - richard e grant (upper class accent really enhances arrognace)

cameos for stallone and brendan fraser as other adventurers/mercenaries, harrison ford as a government official, christopher walken as a cowled wizard, alec baldwin as renal, kevin costner as ribald

Nah, a live-action movie would probably be a mistake. (Probably?)..

If anything, I'd prefer to see an animated movie concerning Forgotten Realms / the Baldur's Gate saga... whether it was in 3d (in the same style as that new Final Fantasy movie) or traditional 2d animation.

Doing it that way, the film could retain the same VO cast for all characters, the story (not the coolest special effects) would be the center piece of the movie, and Viconia's makeup would be a non-issue. Image

A monk, since there are no NPC monks, and because the monk could actually be a spawn of Bhaal, since he is so powerful, with all his resistances, special abilities (quivering palm (whatever) and stunning blow). Image
I'll kick ass in BG2.

Okay, the original question is a who-would-play-who-in-the-movie NOW question. What about a game of who would play who from all of film history? Dates are from the time in the actor's life when they would be most appropriate to the role. (I'm a film prof., so humor me...)

Aerie: Bette Davis (1935--it's the eyes)
Anomen: Orson Welles (1942)
Cernd: Henry Fonda (1940)
Edwin: Jack Nicholson (1974)
Haer'Dalis: Jim Carrey (1995--yes, I'm serious)
Imoen: Louise Brooks (1928)
Jaheira: Greta Garbo (1925)
Jan: Peter Lorre (1940)
Keldorn: Charleton Heston (1975)
Korgan: Edward G. Robinson (1933)
Mazzy: Marilyn Monroe (1959--I know it's a stretch but she really does like a bit like her)
Minsc: Ahhnold (1984--ya gotta admit he'd be perfect for this)
Nalia: Helena Bonham Carter (1988)
Valygar: Laurence Fishburne (1989--when he was "Larry")
Viconia: Rita Hayworth (1947--yes, in makeup)
Yoshimo: Toshiro Mifune (1956)

Of these, Brooks as Imoen, Garbo and Jaheira, and Mifune as Yoshi seem so perfect to me as to be strange.

Yes, John Malkovich would make a good Irenicus. Lest you think me snobbish, how about Julie Strain as Bodhi? Image

I'd prefer, to also be realistic, not to have A class actors play the NPC's or protagonist. Use A class actors for Irenicus, Bohdi and Saverok
Irenicus = Patrick Stewart
Bohdi = Wynona Ryder (perfect choice)
Saverok = Ewan McGregor

Maybe have a few semi-famous actors play the NPC's, but other wise it would crowd the film. Mabye I'd let Cate Blanchette play the lovely, needy Aerie Image
