Favorite Star Wars Movie

Of the films above, easily The Empire Strikes Back. However the best one is the original Star Wars, from 1977. You really should add it to the list.

It's listed as 'Episode 4: New Hope', which was the "episode" title Lucas assigned to the movie. I'm not sure when it started appearing as the episode title; probably in video release.

'tis a great injustice to the film to use the revisionist terms. ANH is the same film, just made worse with every single tiny change, turned into a mere shadow of it's former self. It should be burned and forgotten, concidering that it's original corporeal form still exists.

I haven't seen the DVD editions. But the Special Edition VHS they released some years back, I thought the enhanced effects on that were minor, and much appreciated tbh. Literally enhancing the special fx that were already there.

Actually I do not mind GL tampering with original trilogy. Adding Jabba the Hutt scene to ANH actually enhanced the story and all those Jabba-Han relationship we saw in RotJ. Besides that scene would be in original movie, but GL didn't have time to film that in 1977 using stop-motion pupets animation because those scene would take close to 6 months to film. Those FX changes he did are really minor and besides, like GL said in one interwiew: "This is what ANH would look like if I had this technology back in 1977."
I have much more problem with him replacing original actor with Hayden Christensen in final scene of RotJ, when Anakin's spirit join spirits of Yoda and Obi-Wan. I undestand the need for that change, but still...

i thought episode two had little ot no relevance to the rest of the movies.

episode one: anakin's roots
episode two: yoda with a lightsaber

episode three: the conversion from light to dark

personally, having not seen the original trilogy in almost ten years, i can't post anything about them

yeah... two kinda introduced the Count Dookoo, and gave us the first glimpse of the plans of the death star. it also showed us how the clone wars began...
and it showed us that annakin had developed a love for padme, and was very impatient...imo

Empire had the better ending. Luke gets his hand cut off, finds out Vader's his father. Han gets frozen and taken away by Boba Fett. It's ends on such a down note. That's what life is, a series of down endings. All Jedi had was a bunch of muppets.

LOL. Anyway, I really do like Empire the best. It's just so dark and awesome! Episode IV is a close second. I'm not a huge fan of RotJ, but it's still good. The new ones all kinda stink. Episodes I and II are unbearable, and Episode III came off like a political lesson with Hollywood as the teacher.

yeah i definitely like the story lines of the originals better, but the graphic of episode 3 were really good

Okay, it was quite hard to select one from six, so my selection is based mostly on graphic -things.
I think the 3rd was the best. What it lacked in story it replaced by effects. Especially the first space war scene was just beautiful. Also the end, where was some things taken from episode 4 was just wonderfull.

RoS was, without a doubt, the best of the new trilogy. However, even it failed to live up to my initial hopes for the new trilogy. The acting and dialogue was quite stale (I'm not sure I appreciated just how bad Ewen McGregor was as Obi-one until I saw the scene where he reacts to one of Annakin's vile deeds. Man, did I miss Alex Guiness...).

Ultimately, while the special effects were great in the new trilogy, it lacked the heart of the original trilogy. In the original trilogy, most viewers became attached the cast of characters - Luke, Leigh, Han, Chewie, R2, C2PO and even Lando, Obi-ono, and Lando. In the newer trilogy, none of the characters were really memorable, except the figures we were already familiar with. I found my greatest moments of enjoyment in the new trilogy being when old heroes from the original trilogy did something cool, funny, or interesting (R2 or Yoda, in particular). I really wish that the newer movies had the heart of that original trilogy. We should have been more emotionally attached to Padme, Annakin, Mace, and Obi-one than we were. Instead, they were generally poorly acted and written. All in all, the "new" characters were bland and uninteresting. You didn't care when something big happened to them, the viewers had nothing invested in it. In my mind, those movies ended up being mediocre sci-fi movies. Whereas the original Star Wars had a certain heart to it that really captured the viewers.

But, that's just my opinion. For me, neither special effects are always of secondary concern to other features of story-telling. I can't help but feel they took center stage in the recent movie.

I'd say that the most important moment in Episode II was Anakin's first fall to the Dark side when he killed everyone in that Tusken setlment. That scene did more to explain Anakin's behavior during RotS than any scene in Episode III.

episode four: opening sequence with Star Destroyer
episode five: "Luke, I'm your father!"
episode six: duel on the Death Star and conversion from dark to light

My favorite Star Wars movie has got to be ROTS. Star Wars has never been really big on acting, but Episode III was a big step up from Episode II and Episode I. Another thing, the special effects in ROTS were better than the other five movies.

Of course the special effects in RotS look better than any other movie!

Technology came a long way in those almost 30 YEARS that pass since ANH. Hell, it came a long way in those 3 years since AotC. It would be sad if they do not look better than before.
