You can become mayor of Bowerstone, but that might only be in the Lost Chapters.

It is an alternative to the "Marry Lady Grey" quests. If you choose to become mayor you get access to the building that was formerly her mansion, including the silver key in the bed and the silver key chest inside.

I recall that's the same with the TLC version. Anyway, even if you didn't expose Lady Grey and marry her instead, you are still able to enter the mansion and get the silver keys (not to mention being able to open the demon door near the Grey mansion). It just makes me wonder, what's the point of exposing Lady Grey when I can get all three benefits by just marrying her?

Exposing her is the good thing to do.

(This is a roleplaying game, remember? ;) )

Maybe. After I'd played throught a few times, I tried to look less for how to max my character and more for how to play my character correctly. If you want to get everything, then just do the Summon-Grey House-Combat modifier trick enough and you'll max out before you can say "Skorm's Bow".
