I'm hopeless. Maybe you can give me some advice?

Ha... I was just given VtM:B as gift yesterday, but I ran into some problems.
It installs just fine. It loads just fine. It even starts a new game, and creates a new character just fine.
But on the load screen after character creation, it crashes.
I installed all the patches and whatnot, and after all that work, I found out that I just needed an AMD Athlon processor. Like I said, I'm hopeless.
Does anyone have a recommendation for something akin to an AMD Athlon processor that's pretty low cost? Or any ideas on what the problem might be besides that?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Some additional info might help in solving your problem.
Did game complain about the processor or where else did you read that?
What is your current processor?
ROMERO: If you should see any zombies in that time, you need to put them down. Just don't let them bite you.
PC: Why? Do you turn into a zombie if they bite you?
ROMERO: Naw, it just hurts like a bitch.

You need to tell us what you've got, then we'll tell you what you need. :)

I ran into a similar problem. I had an Athlon 1.2GHz processor with a 64MB video card in my machine, and Bloodlines would install, launch and start running up until I wanted to start the character creation process, at which point it would stop and I needed to Alt-Tab out and abort the program. I took my machine to my local computer store and they sold me a Radeon 9600 video board (256MB) and dropped a new 1.6GHz processor in the motherboard and sent me home again. Now Bloodlines plays just fine .. there are some performance issues still, but the game is very playable and the issues tend to clear up as more of the game loads into memory. I have 512MB of RAM.

Hopefully in the near future I plan to take my PC back to the store and max out the RAM and processor capability, but I expect that will cost me some money I don't have at the moment. Once I get that done, though, I can't wait to play Bloodlines, cause it will rock.

Edit: By the way, the system requirements indicate that you need a 1.2GHz processor (or better), 384MB of RAM (or more), and a video board that can handle DirectX v9.0. I think the video board was the missing link in my configuration .. you need to make sure you have these minimums before playing the game. I'd strongly recommend more than the minimums, however, especially RAM and video RAM, as this is a very graphics-intensive game.

Have you tried to re-install it? 'Cause the game seem to always crash at the same scene sometimes...

Yes, that happened to me aswell when i got the game, at Christmas :(

I believe your problem is your virtual memory, you need to increase it.

This is how: Right click on My Computer, click on Advanced then under the heading Performance click on settings, from there click on " Advanced ".

At the bottem click on settings and change your virtual memory allowance.
in then maximum size just put alot of 9 to fill the box up and press set, a message will come up to say some like you have gone over your max blah blah blah and it will tell you your maximum size you can go to, then just change it to its max, do the same with the initial size, just a tad lower.

I hope this help you, this is how i fixed mine anyway. Hope the post made sence too :)
