Hmm... No, I don't think so.

I know a bit about Formula 1 though :p .
Hes an american hero supposedly

An American hero? A contradiction in terms, perhaps? j/k :p . Anyway, once you start judging heroism from sports... slippery slope.

Hes really famous now and my father raced against him.

Thought of a good television show though, My Father The Fuhrer
a contridiction in terms
Really famous in America... to gymnastics fans perhaps. Nowhere else :p .

I think when someone did well in Curling (for the UK) in the Olympics, it became the fad of the time... :p
The term is oximoron, I studied it

So did I. So I point out that it is 'Oxymoron'. Tsk. Americans and their spelling. Know about Juxtaposition and Hyperbole yet? :D

Yes gymnastics is sort of a fad now

Hyperbole is er... um... built up enthusiasm?

Adding to the list of literary terms- onomatopeia. Yep, someone wins in the Olympics and suddenly the most obscure sport becomes popular.
Hyperbole is er... um... built up enthusiasm?

Hyperbole is probably the only one I remember the meaning of: exaggeration. Excessive exaggeration, I think.

I was given a sheet of them a few years ago when I studied English Literature *shudder* :p
I was close on the hyperbole though

Nothing to do with enthusiasm. I'd dig out the sheet, but it's probably buried far too deep somewhere...

Is drag racing desperate for worldwide recognition too?

Wow, a walking talking advertisement!! Is that really true?

Or is it just that the audience sees all the work from the stands?

Kiss that goodbye if drag racing gets worldwide recognition.... :p

Huh. Must be small audiences or long queues then. Or it's not a very popular option... think of all the people who want to avoid getting oil on their clothes. Eww! :p

Do you know how hard it is to get oil out of clothes?... Because I don't :D .
They have the simpsons in the UK?

Of course we do, though like anything good from a foreign country, you end up waiting a couple years for it, the programme controllers decide it's not popular and then suddenly comes off air or mysteriously placed in a midnight slot with no explanation :p  .

*whoosh* And then the house burns down. And suddenly... oh, quite suddenly, you have a giant fire like in Portugal on the loose :p .

Other good American stuff: CSI, Stargate (SG-1 & Atlantis), House, ER, Alias (midnight slot :p ) etc.

I think that's juxtaposition- contrast and contradiction :p .

Serious fire in Portugal, I'll see if I can find an article... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/4171236.stm

It's petrol that's nasty, right?

Yes very bad fire. I saw a wildfire start from lightning when I was backpacking in New Mexico.
