The Heathen Citadel
@Yeltsu, oh, I got the gist of it all, which is why I posted what I did. Things break down when it's only 2 people posting back and forth, and I've been a part of that. The problem being, when you want talk to someone, and they you, but one doesn't agree to do so OFF the forum. Do you end the conversation because someone is being stubborn, or flood the forum?
"You can do whatever you want to me."
"Oh, so I can crate you and hide you in the warehouse at the end of Raiders?"
"So funny, kiss me funny boy!" / *Sprays mace* " I know, I know, bad for the ozone"

Only today have I been asked to talk off the forum and that not from the person I was talking to. In my experience such an event as you describe doesn't really happen. Even if the reason is that one person believes the other is not going to agree- but in such a case is either person going to be the one who asks?
One possible solution is to have several spamming threads so people can have conversations independently without confusion. These conversations could have 2 or more people involved. Just as long as you consider the seperation of the community as a result.
*sigh* I'm going to go now. Continue the debate as you will. I'll look in the morning.

I've had that problem personally, being the only reason I've mentioned it. It IS easier to move it to a chat program when it's just 2 people. Yet, when I've said something about doing that, the suggestion gets turned down for some strange reason.

When its only two people on a program like aim or msn nobod else can come in. Thats a limitating feature. I, at leat would like more people to talk to on a daily basis. I would like some of the older members to start posting more and some more new blood to come in. Its interesting to see what others think about things and what expeirences they have had. ![Smile :)](./images/smilies/)

[QUOTE=giles337]Hello there Brynn! Hows things? Hows WoW? Hows Archery?[/QUOTE]
Thanks, everything goes well except for archery, I find it too time-consuming and tiring after work, I've missed a lot of trainings lately... Dunno how to fit it into my schedule, but the main problem is probably that I also seem to loose interest in it...
Apart from that, everything is fine, thanks
And how life in the Citadel? I haven't read through the last 100 pages, pls forgive me for that![Big Grin :D](./images/smilies/)

And now everyones arguing about what the citadel should be
Life in general is very good though... Many many parties this summer, as well as working. And I've forsaken guildwars. It got awfully boring, but I'm consideirng other MMORPGs now, becuase it was good fun. Hmms.
I got back from a week in bordeaux on saturday, that was alright, not the most exciting location ever, but still a fun holiday, and the weather was good
Shocking! All that energy about a new bow, and you're losing interest. ![Stick Out Tongue :p](./images/smilies/)

Me: put simply.... No
Mag: From what I put together of your late night drunken ramblings? Vodka, 3 girls, and then we played tic-tac-toe and slapped each other around.

there's a starting fight with the "new ppl"
and the "originals"
so what's your server on wow, i've bought the game and i'd like to know
hmm about this whole debate..
@ravvy&cheisus: about the "wouldn't you be upset if the other person got up and left in the middle of a conversation"
IRL yes i would, on MSN i would maybe a bit but there are occasions when you gotta go.
on a forum, no i wouldn't, simply because although ppl exchange thoughts and stuff it's rarely used as a chat room, and to wake up after a night to see 300(about)posts written by 2guys it's pretty clear that it's smth that's most likely been discussed through and no reason to start digging in the conversation any more..
you say that you want ppl to participate, then ask about smth and leave it there, if you ask smth and then discuss about it with one/two persons for 10pages, very few ppl actually read those pages and they miss the question alltogether, but hey, i ain't in charge, just my 2cents.. but getting to 10k posts isn't the way to get respect IMO and i'm not saying either is doing that, just an observation... peace everyone and remember always one thing:
EDIT: hrm beated to it i guess
i just noticed that this "debate" is sensible stuff as long as it doesn't evolve into bickering argument, that's smth that pretty much happened when IM attacked the citadel long time ago(mccool you traitor
)

See! he understands. And if he can. Anyone can

Doesn't GB load where you last left off?
So if someone asked a question 10 pages back from the front you'd still see it.
And giles, I understand most of what you are saying, I just don't agree with it. Simple as that.
The problem was not whether someone leaves, it's if someone leaves without telling you that they are going. It's plain courtesy to do so, if at all possible.

Not on a message baord, surely. Do you see people just saying goodbye on other threads? Especially not when they are only leaving for 15 minutes, as is the case in question. In a real time situation, possibly yes, but on a message board?![Confused ](./images/smilies/)

Generally I would agree, but this thread is closer to real time than others. That's the whole nature of this place and the spamming it was created for.
And as I said, you know when someone's left (in most cases) but no idea as to how long for.
No telling whether someone has left for 15mins or 5 hrs.

Thats not what this thread was created for at all.Ravager wrote:Generally I would agree, but this thread is closer to real time than others. That's the whole nature of this place and the spamming it was created for.
As I said. It wasn't as much the saying goodbye in itself that bothers me, as the fact that Chiesus, in my opinion was contributing constructively, and seemed to have more to say, why couldn't he post is opinions, followed by saying hed be back in 15 minutes? And as I said, you know when someone's left (in most cases) but no idea as to how long for.

I have no problem with someone letting a group know why they're stopping posting in a discussion, and the more I think about it, the more what Chi said was fine.
At the end of the day, I just think it would nice to see people posting longer posts in the citadel, in larger groups. Its two person conversations about pretty much nothing that would interest others, or spur discussion that I would like to see confined to messenger.
At the end of the day though, I don't control how you post, so *shrugs*

Okay. As I and others have said before, we're happy for others to join a discussion and that has happened. I wouldn't say the discussion Chi and I were having stopped all others (which it didn't) and I know that seeing a long conversation could well be intimidating to others who see no way to join in. But shouldn't it be written somewhere clearly that others are welcome, whatever's going on and all efforts made to make those new people welcome?
And such efforts should be agreed upon by the majority, as there would no doubt be many different views on the matter.
I still believe that the size of the HC makes it intimidating to newbies, which is part of the problem, many people look but feel they can't join in. Everyone comes to their own viewpoint on what the HC is and what it could/should be. Even if that's what it used to be and isn't now.
Please don't misunderstand, I hold a certain sympathy for your viewpoint... I just don't really see it happening regardless of it having worked before. This is just the evolution of the HC. The HC is spontaneous, you can't just say that you liked it one way and hope that people following a set of guidelines (loose or no) is going to fix the problem.
