Need some advice from old guys

Post by EternalKnight »

I am a new player and am starting a new game. I got to about Act 3, then my friend deleted the game on accident (long story). Anyway, I was reading the topics of how ever one praises their character, but what character SHOULD I pick. I was leaning toward kensai or monk, but I don't see what good there is to a good fighters without armor (and they look bad too). So I may settle on Wizard Slayer, but I guess I'm basically fishing for a reason to over look the fact that Kensai and Monk don't have armor. What should I do? Kensai, Monk, or Wizard Slayer.

go for a paladin class instead..much better than a wizard slayer..their ability is crap..a pally with carsomyr have much better mag res and you dispell magic on hit...the wiz slayer ability takes too long to use and you have to hit the wizard first..a clear disadvantage..and the nomagic item limitation is devastating..wiz slayers are not worth it

Pheew! Well fer starters don't call us "old" kiddo. Lest ye want us to torment you with long dull stories that don't go anywhere.

Wizard Slayer is the hardest kit in the game, in terms of difficulty, since that don't allow you to use rings, amulets, bracers, boots and most importantly potions. Though kit in the right hands though. I wish you a lot of luck with that choice.

Kensai is tremendously powerful in attack and damage but as you can tell weak in defence. Magic spells, like barkskin and ghost armour, elivates that problem though, as does potions of defence. They can use any other kind of magic item save armour and bracers though so their AC can get decent anyways.

The monk is doubtlessly the most powerful class in BG2. Towards the end my monk got so powerful that he was boring to play with. Augumented with all kinds of magic items, save armour wich he doesn't really need, a monk can walk trough even dragons at higher levels.

Sorry about the old part, I meant old as in experienced, though I find war stories exciting. So really then, it doesn't matter about the weapon slot allocation points (this question to the first person that answered)? I was thinking of warrior classes just for the weapon slot allowcation perposes (I had like 4 in Katana).

I was just kidding with you, "kiddo". ;-)

The weapon slots in BG2 really doesn't mean anything I fear. They mostly ruined the fun of achiving masteries in a weapon when they removed the bonuses and extra 1/2 attack. Two slots are all that's needed in my opinion. Go for diversity instead of mastery. Most highly enchanted items are twohanded but dualwielding let's you get bonuses from two items at once, wich is very good for the Kensai in particular.

Put 2 points into twoweapon figthing and then two points into katana instead. Looks really cool too. ;-)

Ok, thanks. That opens up new oportunites in character picking. I was leaning towards monk, but I haven't ever beaten the Jahiera revenge thing against the baron without a wizard slayer. The only reason why I want the wixard slayer is for that one fight. Is there anyone else I can choose that has a high magic resistance?

The monk can be excellent without any weapons, i once did 46 damage on Fikraag without using a weapon Image
I'd have to get drunk every night and talk about virility...And those Pink elephants I'd see.

I think if you wanna play the first time try Paladin...but on this clas try to be a good guy as possible. the after that you may be want to try Fighter or Ranger class....the rest is upto you.
