I read that Yoshimo *spoilers*
will die at some point during the game. My question is: Is it possible to get him back without having to resort to patches, exploits, etc.?

Well, I'm sorry to here that. Yoshimo's exit from the game is, actually, a fairly poignant moment in the game. So, it's not completely a waste. I *think*, the Tortured Soul mod actually saves him from his death. I've not tried it, but if you are determined to keep him you might try it.
Ok, but will he interact with me or the rest of the party then?
Thanks
Yeah, I've not played the mod. I imagine there is some new dialogue written. I think there is an extended quest written for him, and he eventually leaves you anyway. Though, the plan with the mod is to eventually allow you take him through ToB. I don't think that's written into the game, yet. You might search around places like Pocket Plane Planet and see if anyone has worked up a good Yoshimo mod. I know the death is hardcoded into the game, so it's a bit tricky for some people to get around.

I like Yoshimo. I don't regard him as a scoundrel; I regard him as an honor-bound mercenary who got caught on the wrong side. I really like his personality. To me, what happens in the game was very heart-wrenching when I played the game for the first time (without spoilers).
Despite the presence of a few clues in the game, I was taken completely by surprise. In that respect, it was great. I'm sure it wouldn't have the same effect if you use a walkthrough or know what's going to happen in advance.
By the way, does the Tortured Soul mod include Tamoko? I once read in a forum somewhere that she's supposed to be Yoshimo's sister.

Just FYI, since I suspect some folk will notice: no, TigerProwler didn't get banned for cursing. He got banned because he was a previously banned user, returning once again under a new name to flaunt it.
Still a good question, though. I'd like to see that mod which enables you to take Yoshimo through ToB. I'd also like to see another quest or two written with Yoshimo in mind. I wonder how many people are working on BG2 mods these days, though?

To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

Yeah, I think the Tortured Soul bit for ToB is actually in development. So it may be the best answer to keeping Yoshimo. I've not played with it, but its relatively popular.
I have no idea if any Yoshimo mods are still in development. I'm continually amazed that there is still such an active BG2 modding community, considering the age of the game and the advent of more mod-friendly games like NWN and Morrowind. Regardless, I'm always glad to see them. Perhaps others are still working on Yoshimo mods.

I've played it. It is definitely worth getting.
SPOILERS (Highlight to read):
There is a new NPC (Kachiko) that knows Yoshimo from his previous life. They actually fall in love, if you play it properly, and a major sub-plot with new areas and NPCs develops. She is actually a big part of his plot, in the way that Imoen is for the PC.
You can also romance Sime (the assassin that Aran Linvail sends to guide you to Brynlaw) and she is quite and interesting character. There are several changes to the normal story line to fit both Sime and Kachiko in.
