Best weapon

Post by Teroril »

I have long thought of what weapon is the best. Then again there are some good weapon combinations fx. dual wield with Crom fayer, the equalizer and celestrial host witch of course comes from planescape. but are there others, i would like your opinion!!

I like the Staff of Ryhm(or something) - a +4 staff, wich you can get early.

and ofcause, Flail of Ages, and Lliancor(sp?.

There is of course the best weapon in the game - flail of the ages (u get it very early - it kills allmost every kind of monsters - the slow ability - have you ever tried to kill a hirde of hasted claygolems with just one guy?) and if you like dualwielding, Defender of Easthaven is almost perfect weapon for offhand.

the good old Crom Faeyr is about as sweet a weapon as you can get; dual-wielding it with something else really high-end makes for a rather nice front-line attacker. Pair that attacker with Keldorn equipped with Carsomyr and you've got two really nice attackers that can smite pretty much anything.

Agree with Chade Fallstar on his choice. There are weapons that are WAY more powerful than the flail of ages, so much is true, but you get most of them far later in the game and then the flail still is very useful because of the ability to slow any target, without save or resistance.

The defender of easthaven combination with the flail of ages makes any highlevel barbarian a very though opponent indeed.

Hook up your mage with the Firetooth Dagger +3. It's a +3 thac0 self-returning throwing dagger with a speed factor of one that does 2d4+3+1/2 damage. You really can't ask for much more than that in a range weapon for mages.

dual wielding celestial fury and black razor can be devastating on a wizard slayer dualed to thief, and going for backstab...so many debilating abilties, stun and miscast magic on the wizard, plus he risk being level drained.

i know you say it will only be for one figth..but if you want to try it out, import a finished char into a new game and give your main those goodies and watch him slice and dice wizards

Hrm tough since I really don't believe in BEST weapons. But if you were to rephrase the question and ask, "If you could only have one weapon for the entire game, which one would you want to have?" I would want the Flail of Ages. It can hit +3's, hit Clay Golems, it slows. The only monsters it can't hit in the game are Kangaxx and Balor, which you can kill with spells.

This may not be the "best" weapon but it certainly is a good one: Drangon's Breath +4.
I think that most people don't beleive that halbreds are good. I have a berseker with the following weapon stats:
***** 2 handed-sword
** Halbreds
** Two handed weapons
I started the game with sword of chaos then Lilacor (which i still use against certain opponents) the Soul Reaver (which I still use against fighters) and now Dragon's Breath +4 because 1) It is +4 so it can hit almost anything 2) It does 5 points of damage against Stoneskined mages.
The only drawback I can see is its relative slowness (I loose 1/2 attack per round) Anyway, striking first is good but striking last is better Image

Crom Faeyr, duh...
In the other categories:

Celestial Fury
Twinkle
Wave
Carsomyr
Flail of Ages
Gesen Bow
Equalizer
...

I really like Celestial Fury (Valygar) and Twinkle (me).

Like Cromwell states "Crom Faeyr is well worth it, my friend."
And so it is. So it is!
The 3 items are worthless compared to the incredible strength of *the* hammer. I mean, what are you planning with Hammer of Thunderbolts anyway? And the girdle? I prefer 25 STR instead of 21! The Gauntlets? By the time you can assemble Crom, you probably already have all other girdles.

KORGAN:
STR 25
Dual Wielding the Crom and some awesome axe
Axe +++++
War Hammer ++++

YEEEEEEEEEE-HAAAAAW!!!!!

The Staff of Magi is very powerful as a weapon, dispelling on each hit, as well as the other equipped abilities it has. Great in the hands of a fighter-Mage, either multi or dualled.
How about the Silver Sword, anyone? I love the instant death. Works great when your mages cast multiple Greater Malisons as you enter combat.
