Non-trap quests (spoiler warning)

Post by Thrifalas »

Here's the thing, I want to get 15k to chase after a certain lass, but I don't want Nalia, Jan or Yoshimo in my party. I'm perfectly aware off the fact that mages can make their way past traps and such with defensive spells and "Knock." However, that's kind of annoying to do and I don't want to miss out on the experience.

So, I know I'll run into a couple when doing chapter 3. I'll run into less when siding with the Shadow Thieves, right? Or? >.<

Anyway, I don't recall any traps for the Druid Grove-quest. And I can reveal Raejik (skinner) without having to into any traps.

If anyone can think of more quests where you don't run into loads of traps (1-2 is decent... on bigger one, like freeing Haer and running Astral Prison.)

I don't think there's many traps at the De'Arnise Keep. A couple on containers AFAIK and lots of good loot to be had.

Yes, but they're not needed do dispell to get the huge amount of XP, (45k or something IIRC) you just have to hit the skinner, walk down the stairs and then head straight to the guy giving out the reward.

And De'Arnise do have quite some if you want to go through containers... which I want, seeing how I won't be able to afterwards. >.< Umar Hills... That might do, I'm usually pretty stacked up when doing that, in order to take down mr. Meanie who guards the big sword.

You can still experiment with those containers and protect yourself accordingly from the trap. Fire protection from flame strikes etc.

The druid grove is also good as suggested.

I don't mean to spoil your fun, but there are a few unavoidable traps on that list. For example, you'll have to walk over at least four traps to reach the Diseased Ones in the Unseeing Eye quest. There are at least two traps you have to walk over in the Sewers beneath the Copper Coronet. There are several traps in Mekrath's Lair; you'll have to cross at least one to get Haer'Dalis's gem. You have to go through two trapped doors (and ideally complete the Unseeing Eye quest) before you can meet Kangaxx. There are two or three unavoidable traps you have to cross to reach the Skinner's basement. Firkraag's lair has plenty of traps, mostly in King Strohm's tomb. If you work for Bodhi, there are several traps you can't avoid in the Shadow Thief domain. There are also some traps in the troll cave in the Druid Grove and some trapped containers in the Umar Hills quest (one of which is involved in The Wizard's Golem), although you can avoid those opportunities if you wish.

If I recall correctly, there are few if any traps in the Astral Prison quest, but you have to cross a few to rescue Haer'Dalis and acquire the Gem he needs, and you'll need a +3 weapon to finish the quest.

There are also a few more quests that aren't on the list. For example, you can fight Mencar Pebblecrusher in Waukeen's Promenade. You can do the short quest involving Kamir and Risa in the Graveyard, and you can rob the graves while you're at it (although some of the containers are locked or trapped).

Who's going to be in your party? If you have a Cleric, Druid, or Ranger, you can use the Priest spell Find Traps. It doesn't remove traps, but in some cases you can walk around traps if you detect them.
I don't mean to spoil your fun, but there are a few unavoidable traps on that list.
I know.. just took the list and removed quests I remembered had lots of traps (Planar Sphere, etc.)
For example, you'll have to walk over at least four traps to reach the Diseased Ones in the Unseeing Eye quest.
Oops... forgot those traps
There are at least two traps you have to walk over in the Sewers beneath the Copper Coronet.
This is not correct. Actually, you CAN bypass both!

- The bridge-trap (it's a door used as a bridge) can be avoided. There's a plank nearby that is also usable as a bridge to cross the water.
- The other trap can be avoided as well... just go by the East side to kill the Carrion Crawler
There are several traps in Mekrath's Lair; you'll have to cross at least one to get Haer'Dalis's gem.
I know, but you CAN do the Mekrath's Mirror Quest (Go and kill an Imp + Earth Elemental, bring back a magic mirrror).
You have to go through two trapped doors (and ideally complete the Unseeing Eye quest) before you can meet Kangaxx.
Oops!
There are two or three unavoidable traps you have to cross to reach the Skinner's basement.
False too... I bypassed them all once or twice.
Firkraag's lair has plenty of traps, mostly in King Strohm's tomb.
You do NOT have to go in King Strohm's Tomb I believe... don't you have?
If you work for Bodhi, there are several traps you can't avoid in the Shadow Thief domain.
Okay, then Thrifalas should choose the Shadow Thieves in Chap. 3.
There are also a few more quests that aren't on the list
Hey, it's not MY Quest List
For example, you can fight Mencar Pebblecrusher in Waukeen's Promenade.
Not a real quest... but I agree. Kill 'em all! Loot 'em!
You can do the short quest involving Kamir and Risa in the Graveyard, and you can rob the graves while you're at it (although some of the containers are locked or trapped).
The first one is refered as "Adoption" in the list. I agree with the 2nd tough. Also, don't forget to kill the Crypt Lord! :D
Who's going to be in your party? If you have a Cleric, Druid, or Ranger, you can use the Priest spell Find Traps. It doesn't remove traps, but in some cases you can walk around traps if you detect them.
Don't forget that Monks can find traps too! :D
But I agree, detect, then bypass.
Traps can be easy to bypass sometimes... even if it seems impossible.

Ex : Wand Traps in Irenicus Dungeon lvl2 are ALL bypassables. Just stay glued to the wall and they won't go off.

You're probably right about some of those traps being avoidable. It depends on their shape and whether you know exactly where they are. :) But if you can't see them, it's easy to forget about them, and you have to be a contortionist to get around some of them, including the ones in the Skinner's house. I didn't remember the plank you can cross in the Sewers instead of the door, but I always hit that second trap because I don't remember it.

You don't have to enter King Strohm's tomb to reach Firkraag. To be honest, I can't think of any other traps on the floor in Firkraag's lair; it's mostly monsters jumping out at you suddenly when you enter a room. And to think that Firkraag's minions say he doesn't need any defenses. :)

Yes, that'll give you Haer'Dalis. Not the Gem, which I guess you'll need if you want Haer a longer time. There's also lots of exp and other goodies (BoS, Melodic Mail, etc) that I don't want to miss out on.

Do the Astral Prison even have traps? I don't remember any. I was planning on letting Haer be my only mage untill I run into Immy, but I first have to acquire(?) him.

Otherwise, with 19 str you have 50% bash... might work on some locks. ;o

[edit] For party I was thinking mainchar (kensai/thief dualled at 15), tob-guy, haer (bards are wicked ^^), Viccy and Immy. I might take someone else then Haer, but I don't know who to choose.

Whoever it'll be it have to be someone able to tank, which leaves out pretty much every thief in the game. (When I hit 15 as kensai I won't have any fighter, so Haer or someone of equal or better tanking/fighting skills are pretty much needed.

I guess I could speed-quest untill I have 1.750.000 exp, but without thief it's so annoying :(

Just the spawn traps to send you to prison rooms in the Astral Prison, I believe. You'll need the Portal Gem that's protected by at least one floor trap and a container trap.

Since the Kangaxx encounter is considered a High Level Encounter (at least by Prima guides :p ) the traps there are probably very deadly.

What about Korgan? He's a very good fighter. Especially with his weapons of choice :) .

Knaxxs quest has 3 traps that you have to step on,or touch:
Arms and legs-one right when you go inside from the door and start going towards the cryps in the sewers. Torso-the door is locked and trapped. Knaxx-again the door to the house is locked and trapped.
I tried them...hardly any damage.Or was it because i got the cloak from Shaugain city...
I like making black text now.

Korgan would be nice (triple bad-ass warrior dudes up front <3), but then I would have no one to open my locks whatsoever. Haer is there for three reasons; Knock, Protective spells to help him pass through traps unwounded, and a substitute tank for my kensai/thief while he's regaining his warrior abilities.

I guess I could pick up like Anomen, Keldorn, Aerie, Mazzy and Yoshimo and send them through the traps. I so wouldn't mind seeing mr. whiney, the oh-so-holy-knight, miss. whiney, miss wanna-be-holy-paladin and the... well, you know. If they're strong enough to stand against, say 3 traps each... it could work.

Or I'll just use Anomen over and over and over and over again... aahahaha, I'm so damn evil. xD

Use Imoen or Nalia for traps and locks or the Find Traps spell to highlight them.

Anomen isn't too bad, annoying personality, but he holds his own very well, reasonable fighting and excellent divine spells. :D

I must say that Anomen i even better if you play with a thief class.Thieves get the lower levels really quickly and so i got Anomen and he was 12!The others seem weak behind him now...
Use Anomen for the traps, put a lot of heal spells ready and no problem.Ofcourse you will lose quite a lot of exp if you don`t disarm traps.
