It's James Spader in the film, Michael Shanks in the series. I think they tried to make Shanks look similar to Spader in the beginning.

Yes, that may be true. It could be that in first episodes/seasons Daniel was made to look similiar, then they changed him a bit after a bit, caused it to seem that the "real" Daniel in the serie is only older version of the original
They'd already dramatically changed the O'Neill character so some continuity was probably required.
You are right. It was quite strange to see warmonger O'Neill when I have got used to that peacefull O'Neill

I think they earmarked an episode in Season 1 where they could start changing the character. From depressesd about the death of his son to the character today.

Yes.
Wasn't the first episode in first season almost same as the movie? except that the bad guy didn't die?

I think the Goa'uld suprised the SGC rather than the other way around (like in the film). Lots of Jaffa enter the SGC, kill people and capture others. After that the new SG-1 went to Abydos and a cartouche with hundreds of Stargate addresses were found.
And yeah, the bad guy survived - for five more years
There's a nice link to it in the end of Season 8- time travelling back to find a ZPM, things go wrong, get help from the future versions of SG-1.

Okay. I haven't seen that first episode myself, but when I watched the film with my friend he told that it was quite similiar.
Hmm... looks like I haven't seen the Season 8, or at least not every episode in it.

What luck! I wake up 5 minutes later than usual and miss all the spamming.
*sigh*
We really need some mountain time spammers here. I get up just in time to watch the Europeans and the Easterners before I even sign in.

How far back do we have to be posting to not be a newbie to SYM, yeltsu?
