gotta agree with mordenkain's sword, they seem to be immune to just abotu everything.

but my new way of dealign with mindflayers...earth elementals. completely immune to mind flayer attacks. so either summon them, or my favorite, use shapechange and have your mage wipe everyone out.

Do you have to go in the mind flayer dungeon? I know you need either blood of Kuo-toa (sp?) or eye stem of the beholder or brain of a illithad. But apart from getting one of these do you have to go into the mind flayer dungeon? I think i'll go for the Kuo toa (or maybe the beholders)

the hilt for the equalizer is in the mindflayer area, that is pretty much the only reason i can think of to go there, other than experience.

the beholder area is by far the easiest if you have the cloak of mirroring or shield of balduran.

about the flayer thing, 2 words:
Chaotic Commands !
best spell ever (against Flayers) to put on your mean fighter.

Blade Barrier works great to.
For a really cheese move Blade Barrier + Sancturary Flayer pieces everywhere without them doing u a thing :D :D :D

(works not only great with Flayer BTW but with all kinds of enemies :D )

In addition to Misfit's cloudkill strategy:

Aquire the Staff of the Magi (from Shangalar and friends), get A cloudkill wand. Sell it, then buy it again so it has 50 charges. Get a mage to use the wand in the middle of a mind flayer filled room, then make him disappear with the staff. There you have it, the mind flayers don't have a chance. A little cheesy though.

Flayer Int drain attacks count as magical, so Protection from Magical Weapons will help. That and Chaotic Commands (or perhaps Improved Invisibility?) and you're ready to go.
