This may help.
I have read on other threads in the forum, that there are problems caused in the fourth trial if a game is saved then reloaded once you are in the room.
I cannot verify this personally, as I followed peoples advice and saved a game before entering the room.
This has probably not been very helpful to you, but it may shed some light on your problem.

Yes, if you saved and reloaded in that room there is nothing you can do but go back to an earlier save. This is a fatal bug that catches a lot of people.
Everyone wants to save in this room because your first time through you take such a pounding. Your first game you always end up going through the trials much too early in the game. You are way better off if you wait till you have your second tier classes filled. Anyhow ORFE1976 I sincerely hope you have an earlier save and don't have to start completely over. D

That's true . . .
. . . however.
This poor person may be in a similar situation to myself when I went through.
While my character was level 9, it was only an Adept, no other tier one and definately no tier 2 classes. Further to that I had not picked up a fire ward spell.
I guess that is what I get for only using walkthroughs as a last resort. Games are much more fun that way, for the most part.
Which meant whenever I attempted to enter the room to kill the spirits off, I barely lasted past the first wave.
Rather than start the whole game over, I opted to kill off the Wizard and given the finicky nature of ranged targeting, this took hours.
I am aware that killing the wizard off is not a requirement and also that you get less XP than for killing the other bosses.
Regardless I got through in the end.
