Are you trying to load the game from SoA or ToB?

What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, ... to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.

Do you have a session name typed in? It's required to start a new game or load an old one. BTW, I noticed that the ToB logo is temporarily displayed when starting a multi-player session from SoA, but that doesn't effect anything.

Try selecting SERIAL for your network setting (it's what I use) and see if that helps.

Don't create your game from your CD. Go online first to www.gamespy.com and register with them, go into their BG2 forum and create a game from there (using their create game buttons) Make sure your CD2 is in your drive. Import your characters, assign control, click on done, your game will now load. Once loaded save your game and exit.
Copy your multiplayer save game from your MPsave folder into your normal single player save folder within your BG2 directory. You can now load up your multiplayer game in single player mode.
Good luck!

Gamespy is freeware, it is still available to download for nothing. The 20 bucks is an optional fee if you want Gamespy's additional extras.
You only need the basic program to run multiplayer
NB - you need to have at least 300MB cache size to set up a multiplayer game...

I had a somewhat similiar problem.
I had been playing thru SoA with a multi game with 2 of my own chars and 3 NPC's, and just needed to go to suldanesselar and hell when I installed ToB.
When I tried to load my multi game I had the exactly same problem
My solution was to take my multisave and put it into singleplayer (works nice )
But I still also cannot create a new multigame!!!
I have Installed the Beta patch and the ToB Tweeks from Baldurdash...
