Crashes in Ald'Ruhn???

Post by Alien_Newborn »

As some of you already know, I recently restarted my game for the EIGHTH TIME (it having been deleted the last 7), and once again, I'm having some unexplained problem with my game. I just finished the mission from Caius where you have to go to Ald'Ruhn to get information on Ashlanders from Zainsubani (I think that's his name...). Everything works nice and normal, until I save my game. When I load a game that is saved anywhere in west-central vvardenfell (anywhere north of balmora and south of Gnisis), my game CTD's while loading. I checked for errors while loading, and there are none: the game just crashes for no reason.

I know that this seems like a tall order, what with me having no info leading to why it crashes, but could someone help me out?

This may be obvious question, but have you recently added a new mod?

CTD happens a lot in this game. I am also started my Xth run of game (and have never finished), and yesterday, I lost counts on CTD.
It usually happens when I reload, or loading a new area after a big jump (like using guild guide or intervention spells to jump to somewhere new).
It could be something to do with cash or memory.

How about reinstalling the game? I believe you can reinstall over the current game without too much hassle of saving mods and saved games.

Well, I haven't loaded anything new of late, but I managed to find the problem. I turned off all the mods affecting Ald'ruhn (because that's where it crashed the most) and then turned them on one by one to find the problem, which was a two-parter:

1. In cleaning "Living cities of Vvardenfell" with TESTOOL, some script in Ald'ruhn got skewed or messed up, so I realoaded it, and it worked.

2. The second part was something I didn't expect: Children of Vvardenfell  I'm not sure if it's an incompatibility, or if it's just glitchy, but my game won't run with it unless I stay out of the area mentioned above. Has this happened to anyone else? It's not like I need the mod, but it was kinda nice to have people outside the 30-80 range.

Living Cities of Vvardenfell, while a fun mod, was never finished and rendered bugfree. It was abandoned by its modder before that.

Are you running Traveling Merchants? Because that mod had a bug causing it to crash in Ald'ruhn. I complained to the modder, who denied that his mod was at fault (despite several similar complaints). Now, a second modder has issued a new version, and publically acknowledges the Ald'ruhn bug. ;)
