I doubt that just being protected from magic will grant you the victory, as both he and his summons hits pretty hard, and you'll get level drain. With Vhailor's helmet it would be one thing, but well... I wish you the best of luck.
I agree. You won't be able to protect yourself with any spells or potions and even if you outlast the protection spells and offensive spells cast against you, you'll need to use a lot of strategy to survive against the demonic allies .
Where do you get this Helm of Vhailor? Is this the one sold by the Deide person in Waukeens if you have the collectors edition? I don't have the collectors edition so I hope not... If so can I get it anyways?

download the bonus cd file from gamebanshee's bg2 page, it will give you two bonus merchants one in AM one in Cooper. or you can "make" them via code, you got to check that one out yourself(i.e. gamefaq etc), i dont remember it
