Well it's not a simple question. Give it some time and you'll get some more substantive suggestions.

It's generally a good idea to keep some back up saves. Do you have any? If so, reload and retry.

I don't have a strong memory of the specific of this quest. You might be able to use ShadowKeeper to spawn the appropriate key into your inventory.

You should still have the auto-save if you weren`t very impatient and gone out of the eye caverns.

If I'm not mistaken you should still be able to complete the quest if you attacked Gaal, unfortunately you wouldn't be able to access the lower levels. The chance is slim but if you haven't already left the area and gone back up it's possible that you can simply load the auto save from the level before (the game automatically saves the game when you enter certain maps).

Thanks all, I loaded the auto save, and then joined the group or whatever. Once i got the key, i just summoned a few monsters, iron skin, then just let fly with Mordakin sword, finger of death and disintergrate :D

Err... why did you go and fight Gaal immediately again? O_o
There's actually more to that quest...

There is some nice treasure and XP on offer in the lower caverns and you also may have lost out on one of the important parts of the Kangaxx quest (if you can't get to the sarcophagus.

I suppose you won't miss out on too much if you have the key.

If you still have the auto-save I'd recommend going through with the rest of the quest.

btw, happy birthday Sononara. :) I should congratulate the person who said I was a god :p
