Sith Academy Issues

Post by cwineman »

At the end of the Sith Academy and Korriban missions, the walkthrough says some things that I found to be false. It might be just due to my light side status or whatever, but I just thought I would mention them, in case other people were trying to follow the walkthrough like I was.

In the final showdown, in the Tomb of Naga Sadow, I was playing around with the different dialog options to see what would happen. The walkthrough says that for two options (paraphrased below) you receive light side points:

-"I choose... me"
-"You're both scum..."

Everytime I chose either of those options, I got dark side points. I'm not sure what that means. At the time, this was my last Star Map, I had finished the Leviathan missions, I had chosen to poison both Uthar and Yuthura, and I was tilted towards the light side. YMMV.

Also, when I sided with Yuthura and let her go so that the Sith Academy would still be friendly, I wasn't able to free the slaves that are being tortured. I think what is supposed to happen is that you persuade the wounded Sith student to free the slaves. I always failed to persuade that dude. This might be due to my woefully low persuade skills. At the best, my persuade skill = 6, even after I used Force Valor on myself.

So, there you go. Not to dump on the walkthrough, I justed wanted to point out that things might be different at this point in the game for players depending on their situation.

Addendum: I just noticed that the walkthrough does note that for the "I choose... me" dialog option on the PC game, you DO get dark side points. So, I stand corrected in that case. Actually, I guess that exception might hold true in both cases. Makes you wonder what the developers were thinking in how they reward light/dark side points. Are we to assume that if you call your Sith masters "scum" on a PC, it's worse than if you were playing on a different platform? I guess so. I am a twisted, dark, evil, man. You all are SCUM!

There are many weird occurances that at one time or another I thought did not exist in the walkthrough. I'd go through it, find that particular phrase, stand corrected and leave, until the next time I think I've found something wrong with it.

I have yet to find a mistake to date.

DS points are fairly obvious, and the walkthrough says so. Sometimes they are awrapped in weird packages. Sometimes they are so blatant they scream DS.

Diffeences between the Xbox and PC seem to be many... but in actuality, its pretty much sometimes you get LS/DS when the other game wouldn't give you that, and I haven't checked the weapons descriptions yet, but I'm sure there are minor descrepancies there as well... I don't think they take away from gameplay. They don't truly make a large diffeence in the game. you can still have 100% LS after leaving your first world, no matter how hard it seems. You can also, maybe have 100% DS... but I am not sure, I've never tried that theory.

The only major difference between the two is Yavin IV. I think thats the only one though. It's pretty basic. The PC has it, the Xbox doesn't.

And thats my humble opinion. :)

hill1,

I don't think there are many real problems with the walkthroughs, they're pretty accurate. They've helped me a bunch. I just wanted to point out a situation where I noticed a problem. In this case, the walkthough even noted that there was a difference between the PC and other versions of the game, so I wasn't presenting anthing new I guess.

As far as the light/dark side point go, it is weird. On the PC, if you make the dialog choices that I made you get dark side points. On other platforms you get light side? Why? There is no obvious reason. Like I said, you call them a scum and fight them on an XBOX - yer good. On a PC - yer evil.

That is sort of strange... why would they make any difference between the two? There isnt much of a point... at some point, maybe the two games branched.

hill1,

Yeah, branched or whatever.

I think SWKOTOR was made by the same folks that made the Baldur's Gate series of games. I might be wrong. Anyway, the equivalent of light/dark side affiliation in BG was much more thought out than in SWKOTOR.

Sure, in BG, most of the time it was obvious that something you did/said would make you good/evil. But, I in BG, I rarely had the moments of confusion like in SWKOTOR where I just didn't get where something I did really made me good/evil.

My guess is that the developers for SWKOTOR never really hashed out what the differences between light and dark side meant. But why in the dialogs I describe they didn't just decide to award no light/dark points instead of completely awarding the opposite makes no sense to me.

Anyway. I still like the game. I've never finished it yet. I'm on to the Unknown World.

At this point, it seems that I have maxed-out my experience for every player. That sucks. I still have a ways to go I think. Is there way to remove the level/experience cap?

Let me see... Im not sure, but I think that there was a mod a while ago. You might want to search for "Level Mod" on the search engine for gamebanshee.

Dont know... I dont mod, more trouble than its worth for me, my game is on the computer without internet access,a nd I dont want it getting any viruses.
