Ring of Wizadry
Where is it?
I looked at exactly the right spot for it, but it isn't there? Is this a bug and if so how can I fix it? Any help appreciated.
Phil

The ring appears and dissapears depends on which patch you applied, which version of game with/without TotSC expansion.
I have original game with TotSC and all the official patch applied, and there was the ring in FAI.
I am not sure about comment on Tutu. My understanding of the mod is it enable BG1 to be playable with BG2 engine, and not the patch to fix the problems of the game itself. Unless the mod creaters clearly stated they have added the ring to the game, I do not think it has got nothing to do with the appearance of the ring in the game.
You may apply a patch or other mod for the fix, I think, if you cannot find the ring (it is very difficult to find, mind you). Also it is a good idea to check the official site for this. I am certain there are lots of people talking about this particular ring, and there should be an official answer somewhere there.
I've read that there are certain versions of the game that don't have the ring of wizardy at the FAI.
Indeed. The Patched version of the game doesnt allow the first ring of wizardry. You'll have to get the everlasting memory from the necromancer at Baldurs Gate. Tough fight, not that usefull item at that time of the game.

Flesh to stone ain't permanent, it seems.
I tried everything including the cooridinates at one time. I have TOSC installed. Decided to take one more look for it as I am soloing (FMT) right now. Found it first try. And I have literally spent hours at a time looking before. I believe it may randomly take it out on certain games. One time you play its there, next time not.
It was there for me....
I just installed the original game yesterday, patched it, then installed TOSC and patched it, and I got the Ring of Wizardry you're talking about, and I've gotten it every single time I've played the game except my first time through-- before I knew it was there. (see below for the reason why I didn't get it.) I didn't use any third-party patches, and I'm working with the original 6-CD version of the game for PC, but I don't know if that has anything to do with it.
I do know, however, that, since the ring isn't in a container, but rather sitting on the ground, if you don't go pick the ring up immediately upon entering the Friendly Arm Inn zone, there's a good chance that it'll disappear due to the game's "finders, keepers" feature, meaning if you leave stuff on the ground, it disappears over time as if some random person who happened by picked it up. I've found that the more valueable an item is, the sooner it is to be picked up. Obviously, this ring is very valueable, so it's not gonna sit there for long, whereas something like a plain old quarterstaff will sit there for days and days.
Hope this helps.

@sigma... the ring technically is in a container, just not a chest or drawer or whatnot.otherwise it would look like the big pile of gold and gems icon that is the standard dropped treasure.
on a different note , I think that it is hard to find because some walkthroughs have it in the wrong place (X and y coordinates).and it is a TINY container.
