WTF is with traps??

Post by NightFall Myriad »

Arg.

I keep reading post about people who set traps up everywhere and have enemies killed and whatnot.

Is there something wrong with my kensai/thief or is he just stupid?

His trap setting ability is at 15% and even with the mercykiller ring on he hardly ever get a trap to be set.

I'm reading posts like someone who set up four spike traps (!!!) for Melissan at the end and I'm thinking: What are the friking odds??

I know he can't be resting and then trapping, resting trapping cuz you can't at that point.

How the hell did he get FOUR TRAPS IN A ROW to work? I've tried to lay 10 at a time and had them all fail!!!

Is there some sort of trick to trap setting?
Do you gotta be in the shade like for Hide in Shadows or actually behind someone for backstab?

(Geez... it took me forever to figure out that you could only backstab from behind, doh!)

What's my problem?

As near as I can tell (never tried setting traps yet though), the enemy cannot be able to see you. As for setting 4 traps in a row, these people are probably super high level and have insanely high thief skills

Really?

Well when I tried laying traps in IRENICUS' DUNGEON after playing with my level 15 kensai/ level 38 thief I figured that I should be able to lay a few traps...

Unfortunately that was not the case...

Anyone know why I can't lay traps?

Human, Neutral good...

Strength: 18
Dex: 18
Con: 18
Int: 9
Wis: 9
Char: 18

It sez my lay traps is one 15% but even then I should be able to lay SOME traps every now and then as opposed to ONE every trillion rests.

What's the deal?

the reason you can't lay traps is your low set traps skill.

when you assign thief skill points you need to move the slider to the bottom + put some points in set traps skill.

it's like all the other thief skills, it won't work well until you get a higher percent score, once you get to 80% + mercykiller, it will work every time.

Since when can I add thieving points to set traps?

I only get four, they are:

Pick Pockets:
Open Locks:
Find Traps:
Move Silently:

Otherwise I'd put them all into traps and hide in shadows since I can't find what move silently does anyway...

Maybe its cuz I'm dual classed?

There should be a little bar thingy that lets you scroll down

Yes, you need to scroll down to find the set traps skill. Need to pump that thing up, because to get them all set with no probs takes a high skill level.

I've noticed that the percents don't add up too well.

With 80% set traps I set ..... 0 out of 5.

With 95% set traps I set ..... 1 out of 3.

With 100% set traps I set ..... all of them.

Kind of strange, since I know the engine caps skills at 99%, so that extra 4% definately helps my thief ;)

Maybe the game rolls a d20 and you get an 80 point penalty. :D

I don't think the special thief traps needs developing of set traps ability since BARDS can set them AND THEY NEVER FAIL.

The regular thief traps needs that ability though.

Not quite true. If you take a look at your bard character with Shadowkeeper, you'll notice that the game gives him 100% in Set Traps.
There's nothing a little poison couldn't cure...

What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, ... to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.

Here's a neat little bug that you might be able to exploit. Yoshimo can regain all his traps when you hit the dual-class button and then hit cancel. I don't know if this will work for your PC but you could try it. ;)
I saved Suldanesellar from destruction, and all I got was this stupid amulet.
