Workbench Components..
Workbench Components..
This is my fourth time playing through KOTOR II and this is the first time i've experienced this problem. I've found that when i want to break down components, that they only give me 1 component each, i've done this with Bao-Dur and Kreia (both have 25+ repair skill) and not a thing happens.. Could someone please direct me in the way of solving this problem?? Thanks.

There are several things that could be wrong. It could be a bug.
However, it could be that what you are disassembling doesn't require a repair skill. It could require awarness, treat injury, or other skills. Things such as Med Packs have little need for repair, but alot of need for treat injury. That means that the more points and addons in treat inj, the more chemicals you get out of it.
Check the compnent for what it needs to build it. If it says 10 awarness, than that means that the best person to break down compnents would be, hence, the person with the highest awarness.
What are you trying to break down. On what are you trying to break it down on? A lab? Each of these have variables that could lead you to not getting as many components as you want to.
Or, it could be simply that whatever you are trying to break down doesn't have many compnents. It doesn't take many compnents to construct a long sword. That may be your problem.
Check all this, and if the problem persists, come back and tell us what you have done. Maybe we can be of some help.

Like i said, i'm a veteran player of this game and this has not happened before..
Im using the workbench.. characters such as Bao-Dur and Mira have very high skills in repair, computer, and security, my other characters have the other skills at high levels, and all of them are the same, 1 component value each, even with stuff such as twelek spinning blade which is supposed to be worth 450 components..
While i was on Nar Shadaa in the Visquis's base (w/ mira) i was able to break down components at what it's supposed to be, but after that it hasnt happened, i even went to that same workbench with the exile and it would only give me 1 component each..
Please turn me in the right direction to solve this problem.. Thanks.

Unfortunately, this sounds an awefully lot like another bug. I would reccomend that you go to the Obisidian or Lucasarts website to see if this has popped up before.
Have you tried modding? If you performed a mod wrong, it make cause problems with the game...
I have to admit, this has never happened to me before, and recently finsihed my fourth game to get all the movies. Also to see all the scenerios. Sorry, I have not been much of a help, but perhaps someone else will come on who has had and past this problem.
I am also assuming that you ran a virus check or tried to reload the game? If not , I would try that too...

This one gets asked a lot.
The currently selected characters' skills are used during item creation at workbenches and labstations. The currently selected characters' treat injury skill is used during item breakdown at a labstation. So far so good. But, during breakdown at a workbench, the party leaders' repair skill is used.
Strange that it has taken until your fourth play through to notice; it has always been like this.
Why? No dev has commented and there is nothing in the documentation (there is a comment on one of the loading screens, however).
But, when you meet Bao-Dur he is a Tech Specialist with an Int of 15. Bump this stat to 16, and he has 7 skill points to spend per level. You can use this to bump his repair skill to way past the "sweet spot" of 15 before you encounter the next workbench in the old military base on Telos! This is more than a bit of an exploit. So, it seems unlikely that this is bug to me.
If this really annoys you (and you are using the PC version) you could always try this mod from pcgamemods .

He said he already knew about the complexities of the treat injury system, as I listed them above. I dont think a mod will do though... this sounds like something that is in need of a patch. Mods usually alter the game to change already intended purposes for other intended purposes, correct? I think that this is just a bug that needs to be fixed.
Try downloading all the patches if you find a mod that does not work, which I have a feeling that you wont find one.

Ummm.... there was this one time, where I was storming Goto's Yacht to rescue myself with Hanharr in the lead (who had about 20 repair). When I went to the workbench and started to break down stuff, I actually managed to get 8 (EIGHT) parts from a single computer spike. I think the way it works is that YOU (and not a party member) have to have repair skills to get extra parts.
Get up, stand up. Come on, throw your hands up.
If you've got the feeling, Jump across the ceiling.

I knew it had something to do with the repair skill, but i didn't know the main character was the only one who could break down items.. this is the first time i've actually gotten online to look up stuff, so please dont be so rude..

I believe that s/he thought that it was a bug. This game is riddled with them. I too, thought that you had a bug. I don't think that s/he was being rude. Sorry if this sounds offensive.
I didn't know that only your main chacter could break them down like that...? Then again, I usually sell my items, to by better equipement, so perhaps I didnt notice...
There is a search option on this forum... it does help most of the time... but sometimes the thread never answered the original question, or it never answered your question. Just a suggestion. Anyways, many people tend to have to post new threads anyways, since with each version comes new questions. (or sometimes it is much quicker, as the search option tends to include threads from other forums as well... and sometimes they dont show up at all, since it was so long ago)
It doesn't always have to do with repair... almost very skill plays some part in breaking something down.
Good luck finsihing the rest of your current game.

"He". I would have thought the car avatar would have made that clear? And, no, I wasn't being rude. I was just trying to convey that this isn't something that has changed (perhaps by patching the game) or something that can be resolved easily (perhaps by reinstalling). It is difficult sometimes to get intent from plain text. Perhaps I should use these more often:hill1 wrote:I believe that s/he thought that it was a bug. This game is riddled with them. Bug or not, it appears that the mod I linked to overrides three of the games' scripts. One to do with creating items with T3M4 and the other two with the workbench. From the mod readme:hill1 wrote:Mods usually alter the game to change already intended purposes for other intended purposes, correct? I think that this is just a bug that needs to be fixed.
If you want to include this in your mod, too, simply replace "GetFirstPC()" with "GetPartyMemberByIndex(0)" in all 3 files
I have high hopes that this should work, but I haven't tried it myself. I like waiting till I have completed my second planet, by which time I should have invested in the repair cross-class skill and have started building it.

There were several threads that could have been ressurected on this topic, but this seems the most relevant. I am having the same problem as the person who started this thread. People are basically saying the problem is that the main character's repair skill is used no matter which character you have use the workbench, but there is something I want clarified. I have no points in repair, but absolutely every item I have will only break down into one component, even big expensive guns and suits of armour. I understand that repair skill gives more components, but is it really right that with no repair skill no item will give more than one component? That seems kind of overkill, and makes the repair skill a little too important, if true.
Then my question is, can people give me some idea of how much difference the skill makes? Like, how many points of repair gives you roughly how many more components?
And finally, does anyone know of any currently available mods etc. to fix this? The mod page above is no longer a valid link.
Thankyou.
