Help-My game keeps locking up

Hi, I am having a strange and frustrating problem with my game.

I am at the Ice Temple. I have gone into the room where Nickademus is sleeping, I have clicked on him once and got the journal entry that he is sleeping and to come back. So I finished exploring the level entering whichever rooms I could without using the lightning machine. Now whenever I enter Nicademus' room I start walking towards the bed the game will lockup. Part of the screen shows a black box and the rest is my desktop. I can only recover to the desktop by right clicking IWD on the taskbar and closing it or by ctr-alt-del and ending task.

My system is a AMD3000+ Athalon, 512MB RAM, ATI Raedon 9600, onboard sound. OS is XP Home edition.

Any help is appreciated.

I had a problem like this, and I ended up having to reload from the begining of this section and playing through it again. I don't know what it was, but it seemed like some sort of strange glitch in the lightning room.
