Can't use Disciplines?

I am at the very beginning of the game and I have to use my lock picking ability once again at a door underground. But I don't have a high enough lockpicking ability and my Blood Buff Discipline isn't working. I have been trying to use it as a hotkey '5'. What can I do?

Well if you have it programed into your "5" hotkey, then hitting the hotkey will select it. You still need to "right click" your mouse to activate it. If you don't have it set to your hotkey, you need to use your mouse scroller to scroll to the blood buff discipline (you'll see disciplines in the lower right hand of your screen). When you get to blood buff, right click and you'll activate it.

I had that problem when I first started - hotkeys didn't work.
then I realised that they just quick-selected rather than activated.
I think blood-packs do actually get used on hot-keys, but often the pause that [default] 'i' gives is also useful to re-assess the fight.
