Master Dual/Multi-Classing List?

Post by Philip »

Does anyone know of an authorative list of all the possible dual/multi-class combinations that SoA/ToB will support, including what attributes are required for each?

e.g. Is it possible to be a multi-class Swashbuckler/Cleric (not that I'd necessarily want to ;) ) and if so, what race/alignment/stats/etc would I require at a minimum in order to be allowed to be one?

I'm about to start a new game soon and would like to try something out of the ordinary but very challenging/interesting from more of a 'role playing' (well sort of...) than a 'power gaming' point of view. I'd like to try a combination I'd never thought possible/likely before!

Yep Edwin - I agree, there are HUNDREDS of topics in this forum that discuss various classes, multi- and dual- combos, which are best for parties, which are best for soloing, which are best for power-gaming, etc, etc, etc... and I've read quite a lot of them! :o

What I was hoping for was a concise list _all in one place_ of the possible combinations and their basic requirements without the pages upon pages of rants, comments, opinions, conjecture, etc, etc mixed in.

I have seen a brilliant Guide to Character Classes by Riverwind (Andrew Shih) but this document appears to only list a small subset of all the possible combinations.

Does anyone know if such a concise chart/list exists? Does anyone want the challenge of writing one? ;)

The only master list I know of is in the Balder's Gate SOA User's Guide (the one that comes with the game) near the back of the list.

*UNFORTUNATELY* is is wrong in several places (it lists Druid/Mage as a possible multiclass for example when it is not available).

Sorry I can't be more help.

I don't know of any complete list of this. However the options aren't that many so you could easily put toghter one on your own. I'll tell you this, though. Only humans can dualclass. Only dualclass characters can choose a kit (only for the first class). Therefor, a multiclass Swashbuckler/Cleric isn't possible.

To dual at level 26 is *a bit* late, wouldn't you say? IMO, you miss the whole point with dualing (having two classes) when you wait to long.

Oh, I'm sure that makes for a good PC. The question, though, is *when* the PC gets good. Where in the game are you at the time the PC realize his full potential ( = access to earlier class)?

Well, for almost the entire game that PC would be either:

1) an ordinary Swashbuckler (although with an interest for the spiritual) or

2) a low level priest (remembering his luckier days as a thief).

Only in the very end of the game he would once more access his first class and thus becoming:

3) a dual class character with the advantages of his two classes

In short, I believe this character clearly shows how to *not* dual class. If you want both classes at those levels, a better alternative is to multiclass.

It is impossible to dual-class Swashbuckler with a Cleric.

The BG2 game imposes a restriction on dual-classing that isn't present in real D&D.

In BG2, you can only dual-class two classes which are allowable as a VALID MULTI-CLASS combination. Thus any thief with any cleric is not permitted.

Nice idea, though, eh? Perhaps NWN...

Welcome to GameBanshee. :)

Cleric/Thief dual is available to Gnomes and Half-Orcs.

And let's not forget Aerie the Elven Cleric/Mage... That one's for NPCs only.
