Error in play (And I am almost through!!!)

Post by eagle882 »

I have played this game off and on since March and just when I get almost through it I run into a problem! Here is the description:

According to the walkthrough on GameBanshee (http://www.gamebanshee.com/vampireblood ... rough.php), I have just completed the "Hell...Hotel Hallowbrook" quest and am starting on the "The Enemy of My Enemy" quest.

Here is a small snippet of this walkthrough:

Once you're finished with the Hell at the Hotel Hallowbrook quest, Prince LaCroix asks you to be his emissary to negotiate an alliance with the Anarchs. On your way to The Last Round, though, the Gangrel historian Beckett approaches you and warns you not to open the Ankaran Sarcophagus. He doesn't really give you a good reason why, only that destruction will be wrought if and when it is opened. After thanking Beckett for the warning, he assumes wolf form and disappears down an alleyway.

***********This is where my problem occurs****************

When I turn a specific corner, I here Beckett say "WAIT" I then FREEZE IN MY TRACKS. I cannot go forward, backward or anything. I upgraded the game to 1.2 patch prior to playing in March. I have went through the entire game pretty well (only a few hiccups). I just can't figure out what this might be.

Please someone help if you can!!!!

There are a number of threads on this, but the short version is that you ran out of the zone where Beckett can be. Reload from a previous save, and just go through that part of the street slower, and stop the instant you hear Beckett. It doesn't hurt to crouch and sneak down that part of the street.

This did not work

I have tried everything I know to get this to work but it does not. I have run, walked, sneeked, did the hokey pokey and turned myself around, etc.

Is this a known major bug or what? I wonder if this works the way it should for ANYONE.

Please elaborate on a possible solution if you can.

slower then

the answer really is to be slow. everybody with a problem has moved through the area too quickly. Beckett will appear from the side alley on the same side as the Chantry. after a couple of times when I ran through the area too fast and beckett couldn't catch me, taking it slow worked every time.

I had to wait in front of the alley where he comes running from. If you just sorta stand around there he'll show up after he yells at you.

You might also wait until the streets are pretty clear of people. Especially give anybody strolling into that alleyway time to get out of Beckett's way. But, yeah, usually I have to reload several times before he actually runs up. I've tried baby steps, slow steps, walking backward, right side of the street, left side, middle. Still don't know exactly what's wrong.

None of these solutions worked

I really do not want to stop playing, but I CANNOT find a way around this! All sewers are closed so I cannot go underground.

The answer is not just to walk slow.

What worked for me was to walk backward out of that alley until the camera (in third person view) bumped against the hallowbrook hotel. Then I slowly (with shift-walk and step by step) strafe right until he yells and runs towards you. You might even see Beckett spawn in the alley if you do it this way.

Seems to work everytime this way for me.

No Dice

This did not work either. I sat there for 45min and he did not appear.

This question is for the entire forum:

Does everyone experience this or does it happen to certain types of players (characters)??? What causes this to happen??

This problem is a MAJOR flaw in the game. Unfortuneately, it happens at the end when you have been playing for days, even months. Gameplay has been above average to this point, but WHY WHY WHY do you have to negotiate this portion of the game so gingerly???

I really want to finish, but cannot get past this!!!!! Is there a cheat to skip to a level/portion of the game? I really wanted to avoid this but I see no other solution.

the game is full of bugs, at least in my experience, but all the ones i have encountered are solved by a reload. or if it crashes i have worked out its always in the same place, for example if i try to trance someone then feed off them while they are on a set of stairs. with the particular problem you are having i had the same problem when i first played. i solved it by walking instead of running (press the shift key) and i also just changed my approach slightly. by taking it slow and just changing the route i walked down the street slightly it worked fine the next time i tried.
